Hey All!

During my recent visit to Monsters University aka Pixar Animation Studios, I had the amazing opportunity to chat with the Producer of the upcoming film Monsters University Kori Rae.

We only had a short time with her, but she had lots of amazing things to share with us about how this fantastic animated movie came to be.

She came on this project early on. As soon as she heard about this film she wanted to be a part of it. Who wouldn’t as it’s an amazing film containing some of the most beloved Disney characters to hit the big screen.

“As soon as I, as soon as I knew that it, they were thinking about it, um, I, I said I really want to work on that move if I can.Ā  So, uh, yeah, luckily that worked out.”

Spoiler alert, we do get to see a young Mike and Sulley in this film. But in particular we see a very young Mike on a school trip which inspires him to want to be a scarer. We all fell in love with the young Mike and we were all inquiring about whether or not we can see a spin off of baby monsters. Sadly nothing is planned just yet.

“I donā€™t know.Ā  I really donā€™t.Ā  Weā€™re so focused on getting this one done. Not a whole lot of thought has been given to anything else.Ā  But, yes he is adorable.Ā  We love him tooā€¦”

Kori Rae majored in secondary education and in English. She managed to land a dream job at Pixar shortly after college and the rest is history. She is helping to bring this amazing film to the big screen and brings the knowledge or what it’s like to be an educator to Monsters University. She described some of the process of bringing this movie to life.

“Itā€™s kind of a linear process.Ā  So you have story and editorial and art up front when youā€™re designing and, and creating the film, and then all of the, the other departments come online.Ā  Weā€™re working on the mix right now.Ā  Um, we have a little bit of score left to do.Ā  We have a couple of score days the end of this month.Ā  Um, the picture will be done this week.”

It was an amazing day filled with so much learning and fun. All the dedication being put into this film to bring it to the big screen ultimately makes this an amazing film for the whole family. I’ve seen it and I can’t wait to share all the amazing details with you soon.
