DIY Adult & Kid Elbow Patches Inspired By The Story of Diva and Flea!

DIY-Dog-Kid-Elbow-Patches

Hey All!

Every day I wish I had a little girl of my own to place dress up with. Hopefully one day soon as me and the hubby will be trying for a new baby soon. I have to settle for the times my niece comes to visit me. We love to sit down and read and play dress up. One of our new favorite books to read is THE STORY OF DIVA AND FLEA by Mo Willems and Tony DiTerlizzi. We were lucky to get an advanced copy as the book will be released on October 13th! Mo, in case you didn’t know, is number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator who has been awarded a Caldecott Honor on three occasions (for Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity). Tony (the illustrator) is also a number-one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator. He created the middle-grade series The Spiderwick Chronicles with Holly Black, which has sold millions of copies and has been translated into more than 30 languages. It was also made into a feature film. In 2014 he teamed up with Lucasfilm to retell the original Star Wars trilogy in a picture book featuring artwork by Academy award-winning concept artist, Ralph McQuarrie.

That’s one talented duo to bring together to create this amazing book. No wonder we love it so much! If you’ve never heard of this book it’s about an adorable small yet brave dog named Diva and a curious streetwise cat named Flea. They develop an unexpected friendship in this unforgettable tale of discovery.

The Story of Diva and Flea

Here is a little brief summary of the story:

For as long as she could remember, Diva lived at 11 avenue Le Play in Paris, France. For as long as he could remember, Flea also lived in Paris, France–but at no fixed address. When Flea flâneurs past Diva’s courtyard one day, their lives are forever changed. Together, Diva and Flea explore and share their very different worlds, as only true friends can do.

The book is filled with lovely colorful illustrations.

There are also amazing pencil sketch illustrations, which make the book so vibrant and unique.

We were so inspired after reading this book, I decided to make a little surprise for my niece so she can showcase her Diva and Flea love with her where ever she goes.

I made these super easy to make Diva the Dog and Eiffel Tower elbow decals that both an adult and child can wear out together. There is nothing cuter than when you see mother’s and daughters dressed alike.

You then upload your images into your craft cutting machine to cut the images out of your White Glitter and Gold Clitter Iron On Material. That’s the way I made mine, but if you don’t have a craft cutting machine you can download these printables and use them as a guide and cut them out with a scissors as best as you can. You and you kids can cut them out together for added fun.

Once your shapes are cut, you begin ironing on your elbow patches. Be sure to leave the ironing to the adults! There will be a clear plastic film that will roll up from the iron on once it’s heated and stuck on your fabric. You don’t want to keep ironing once you see this happen.

Also, make sure the images are lined up with where your elbow falls on the sleeve as you iron.

You proceed to do this on as many matching outfits as you’d like.

I did two pink outfits and….

Two black and white outfits. The black and white is my favorite!
