Hey All!

In honor of the new LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHYā€™S RETURN film coming to theaters May 9, I decided to celebrate with a fun Oz inspired recipe. One thing I always remember when I think of Oz are the flying monkey’s. The new film is a 3-D animated musical based on Roger Stanton Baumā€™s 1989 novel Dorothy of Oz. This time around, the devious new villain is the Jester (voiced by Martin Short) accompanied by his flying monkeys. I thought why not make some edible flying monkeyā€™s that we could enjoy in celebration of this fantastic new film.

First you trace out the bat wings on your parchment paper with your pencil. You then draw the face of the monkey onto the macaron with the plastic tubes and melted peanut butter candy melts. Let the melted peanut butter dry. It dries with in a few minutes. If you want to speed up the process place them in the freezer.

You then take two Wilton Milk Chocolate candy melts and put them inside each of the macarons on each side so they look like the monkey ears. In the center of the chocolate wings pour a little melted milk chocolate in order to stick the wings to the macaron.

Here is a little about the film in case you haven’t heard of it:

Dorothyā€™s only just returned home from her first incredible journey to Oz, but sheā€™s already being called back for another adventure! After waking to post-tornado Kansas, Dorothy (Lea Michele) and Toto are whisked to Oz on a magical rainbow mover sent by their old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi) and the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer). Time in Oz has passed much faster than back in Kansas, and Dorothy discovers that the Jester (Martin Short) ā€“ the devious brother of the Wicked Witch of the West ā€“ is taking Oz over one region at a time, holding their leaders captive and casting a pall of darkness over the beloved land. Even Glinda (Bernadette Peters) is unable to combat the Jesterā€™s evil powers, making Dorothy their only hope.

When she arrives in Oz, Dorothyā€™s plan is to travel to the Emerald City to reunite with her old friends and join forces with them to stop the Jester. However, the yellow brick road isnā€™t quite as easy to follow this time around, especially with the Jester planting tricky detours to lead her astray, so she enlists the help of Wiser the owl (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart) to help find her way.

Dorothy is grateful for the support of her new friends, but when she realizes that having them by her side means putting them all in grave danger, she has to decide whether to continue to accept their assistance or forge the road alone. But with the future of Oz at stake, itā€™s going to take as much heart, brain and courage as they can collectively muster to defeat the Jester and return order and happiness to the Emerald City.

The film Stars Lea Michele, Hugh Dancy, Megan Hilty, Jim Belushi, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer, Oliver Platt, Bernadette Peters and Patrick Stewart with new music by Bryan Adams
