Hey All!

Family dinner is about so much more than food; itā€™s about the precious time you get to connect with your family after a long and busy day. We always make it a point to use dinner time to catch up. With constant events for the blog, work, school, and everything else in between it’s sometimes hard to come together during the day. Dinner time is the main time when we know we can come together and catch up after a busy day. This is one of the most important times of the day for me as it’s when I get to spend time with my loved ones.

This time can easily be hindered by technology. It’s hard to get everyone to put down the phones and tablets even at dinner now-a-days. I’m even guilty of this. I have to actively turn off my phone so I won’t be distracted with work. We’re all so connected and addicted to our technology it can be difficult to unplug for even an hour. We’ve taken a pledge to make sure dinner time is the time to unplug. We never want to become so disconnected with each other that we can’t even take an hour to spend time with each other. All families should try to practice this. Power of Family Meals is proposing that families disconnect to reconnect at mealtimes. Disconnect to Reconnect is a movement to get families to unplug at the table. Power of Family Meals is encouraging families to gather around the table for meals without screens (phones, TVs, iPads, handheld devices) at one meal, once a week, more often than not. As technology continues to become more predominant in our lives and busy lifestyles often force us in different directions, meals around the table offer precious time for families to reconnect. It will continue to become more important to set boundaries for digital detoxing, so why not start now? Family meals are a tradition worth maintaining.

To encourage our family to disconnect during dinner, we switch it up and make dinner a fun event. We love to do fun things for dinner like having breakfast for dinner.

We make words with our pancake batter pens…

And fun characters.

Yes we made the word family with our pancakes as nothing is more important than family.

None of the pancakes we make have to be perfect. All that matters is that we have fun and come together to make them. We also add some of our favorite spreads like chocolate hazelnut to our pancakes. It’s so much fun to do while we chat about the day we’ve had.

I encourage you to take the ā€œDisconnect to Reconnectā€ pledge as well. It will help you to preserve that precious dinner time and connect with your family. It has done this for us and I’m sure it will do this for you and your family.
