Walgreens Express Script What Deal

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey All!

Have you heard what’s going on with Walgreens and Express Scripts? Well apparently Walgreens no longer accepts the Express Scripts program. So if your insurance has your prescriptions with Express Scripts then you can no longer get your prescriptions filled at Walgreens. I know I’d be super unhappy if I had a particular Walgreens that I went to regularly to get my prescriptions filled. I wouldn’t want to change either.

Well Walgreens was trying to help it’s customers by working with Express Scripts for the past year to try to work together to come to an agreement, but sadly it did not come to a good end for anyone. You can read  here about the Walgreens and Express Scripts situation.

So what are your options if you are in the Express Scrips program? Well the hassle thing to do would be change pharmacies. But Walgreens has 7,786 drugstores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Each day, Walgreens provides nearly 6 million customers the most convenient, multichannel access to consumer goods and services and trusted, cost-effective pharmacy, health and wellness services and advice in communities across America.

Walgreens scope of pharmacy services includes retail, specialty, infusion, medical facility and mail service, along with respiratory services. These services improve health outcomes and lower costs for payers including employers, managed care organizations, health systems, pharmacy benefit managers and the public sector. Take Care Health Systems is a Walgreens subsidiary that is the largest and most comprehensive manager of worksite health and wellness centers and in-store convenient care clinics, with more than 700 locations throughout the country.

So if changing pharmacies is probably more of a hassle since Walgreens is the closet and most trusted pharmacy in your town you should consider signing up for the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens.

Walgreens is trying to help their customers in this unfortunate situation so they are offering a special rate of $5/person or $10/family for the month of January. Regular annual membership is $20/person and $35/family so get this offer quickly! As a member of their Savings Club, you will receive savings on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications and more than 400 generics are available with a 3 month supply for less than $1 a week.

So check to make sure if you are part of the Express Scripts program. You can check the back of your insurance card to see if it says “Express Scripts” on the back of the card and try to figure out what the best options are for you and your medications!
