Hey All!
I had the amazing opportunity to see an advanced screening of Disney and Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie! I have to say it is one of the best animated films I’ve seen all year! It’s the best stop motion animated film I’ve seen from Tim Burton since he produced A Nightmare Before Christmas! I kid you not that’s how much I loved this AMAZING family film.
It’s very much an homage to those classic monster movies of the 50’s that I grew up watching with my mother! I love these movie posters that were made for the film that have that old monster movie look to them. My favorite has to be the one for Sparky’s Return!
This film is also a touching story that teaches kids about making sure you do things for the right reasons as well as learning how to deal with love and loss. I would say it’s an amazing family film for kids 6-7 years old and above! Adults will find themselves identifying with this story and kids will love the characters and Sparky! My two year old Nephew hasn’t seen the film but he’s seen Sparky and is obsessed with him!
Here is a little about the film:
From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.
Thank you Disney for sending us our very own Sparky and some amazing toys to play with! There is one Happy Bubbie in this house today! Aww their noses are touching just like in the movie! I digress…
Here my top ten reasons to see this film!
- It’s the first actual film Tim Burton has animated for Disney! When Disney and Tim Burton come together it’s a match made in heaven!
- If you’re an adult who has ever owned a pet or has lost a pet it will leave you teary eyed by the end of the film. I know I was and I couldn’t wait to get home to walk our Mr. Pink and Chico!
- It brings together an amazing cast that reunites Tim Burton with some amazing actors he’s worked with in the past like Winona Ryder (“Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands”), Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), Martin Short (“Mars Attacks!”) and Martin Landau (“Ed Wood,” Sleepy Hollow”).
- The Animation is amazing! The amount of detail and love that went into making this film really comes through in the film itself!
- The characters are all unique and truly fleshed out. You can relate to each character and truly identify with the emotions of Sparky and Victor. Their relationship is truly one of love. And everyone can relate to having something in your life that you love and cherish.
- It’s one of those rare films that both Adults and kids can love! Even if you don’t have kids I highly recommend you see this film as I truly feel it’s a film anyone who sees it will love!
- Did I mention it brings Winona Ryder and Tim Burton back together? When these two get together you know it’s a magical combination! I was thrilled to see it for that fact alone! And she even sings in this film!
- The story if based on Tim Burton’s actual real life experiences as a child and growing up in Burbank, CA!
- When Tim Burton originally conceived the idea for “Frankenweenie,” he envisioned it as a full-length, stop-motion animated film. Due to budget constraints, he instead directed it as a live-action short, released in 1984. He’s had years to flesh out the story and has truly delivered a film that will stand the test of time!
- And last but not least! If you’re looking for a not so scary film that is perfect for your kids to see for Halloween, Frankenweenie is that perfect film to see!
I loved this film and I will be taking my family to see it, so they can fall in love with it as well! It arrives in theaters every where tomorrow! You can get a little preview of the film in the featurette below!
And if you’re in the LA area you don’t want to miss visting the Art of Frankenweenie exhibit at Disney’s California Adventure! It’s a must see!
