A Day At Pixar For Their New Disney Film Inside Out!

PIXAR-STUDIOS-TOUR-3

Hey All!

A few months ago I had the amazing opportunity to visit the fabulous Pixar Animation Studios to chat with the filmmakers of the upcoming film they have coming out with Disney entitled Inside Out and the short that will run before it called LAVA. It’s always fun to visit the studio as it’s a place I dreamed of working when I was younger. Heck I still dream of working there. Who wouldn’t want to work in such a creative and amazing place. This is the birth place of Toy Story and so many other amazing Disney Pixar Movies. I knew what I would learn about Inside Out would probably make me count the days to see this sure to be animated hit.

As soon as you enter the studio you’re greeted by these amazing LEGO versions of Buzz and Woody. How cool are they?

They have some their much deserved awards on display right in the lobby, which is very cool to see. Oscars galore I say!

They also had some amazing artwork for the short LAVA on display and a pool table.

We did get to chat with PETE DOCTER & JONAS RIVERA about their new film Inside Out after the tour and here is what they had to say:

Was this film made to show what it’s like to raise a daughter?

JONAS RIVER:

I mean, obviously it started it off as an observation of Pete’s daughter. We all have kids but they’re big in the movie. But it’s really become a movie about us as parents.

PETE DOCTER:

Yeah.

JONAS RIVER:   It’s kinda like trying to explain what we cannot figure out. So, we’re having a lot of fun with it, and trying to keep it truthful and real and so forth.

Do your families and friends ever feel like they’re fair game and tread lightly so they don’t end up in your movies? Are they gonna recognize themselves up there?

JONAS RIVER:

Yeah maybe, I don’t know.

PETE DOCTER:

We kinda play it down, you know. Maybe a couple people.

JONAS RIVER:

I don’t know. A lot of people think dad looks like Pete. You know?

PETE DOCTER:

You’re bad.

Does your daughter know that she was the inspiration for the film? If she does, how does she feel about that?

PETE DOCTER:

She’s playing it pretty coy. She just saw the film maybe a couple months before Christmas?

JONAS RIVER:

Yeah.

PETE DOCTER:

And she’s 16 now, so she’s not been really forthcoming with exactly what she thinks of it. But I think she’s having a good time with it.

JONAS RIVER:

I think she enjoys it. I mean we kinda kept it quiet for a while that was, it wasn’t literally, but it was an observation of her, and then we started talking about it, and pitching it, and referencing. I mean we look for these films as we make them for things that are truthful and real, or coming from at least a real place. It doesn’t matter what people think of them, we can say, “Well they’re, they’re observations of our own family and friends and life.” So, there’s no getting around it.

Disney Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind. In case you haven’t heard about it here is the gist about the movie below:

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

It’s going to be awesome! I’ve seen some footage and laughed out loud from what I saw.

Inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes, “LAVA” is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years. It’s From Pixar Animation Studios, director James Ford Murphy and producer Andrea Warren. I did get to see this shot and it’s beyond beautiful. The music and visuals had me a bit teary eyed by the end of it since it was so lovely!
