Hey All!
As you all know, I love Home Depot! There is so much you can get at Home Depot to make some amazing DIY projects. For ladies like myself who love to DIY, they even offer Do-It-Herself Workshops that are held monthly at all The Home Depot store locations. These workshops empower women with the skills and knowledge to take their home improvement project plans from dreams to done. The Home Depot wants everyone (men and women) to have the skills and confidence to be a first class do-it-yourselfer. In-store workshops are a great way to get step-by-step instructions and hands on experience learning to do simple décor and easy home improvements.
I love their workshops, so this past weekend I decided to make a DIY project inspired by one of the Home Depot 2015 DIH Workshop products. They have a workshop to create a DIY Outdoor Serving Station as you can see and sign up for here. Since we live in an apartment and don’t really have any place to hang this, I decided to hack this project and turn it into a DIY Sprinkle Rack to organize and hold my ever growing collection of sprinkles!
To Make This Fun DIY You’ll Need:
- Circular saw
- Level
- Drill with driving bits
- Safety goggles
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Paint brush
- Gloves
- A two-foot by two-foot, three-quarter-inch Piece of Wood
- Sand Paper
- 2 Inch Thick Piece of Wood
- 2 One Inch Wooden Dowels
- Wood glue
- White Paint
- Eight 5⁄8 inch screws
- Six Nails
- Hammer
First you put on your safety goggles and gloves and take your circle saw and cut your pieces of wood into the length you’d like your rack to be. Ours was 22 inches by 1 foot high and we cut our wood pieces to match these measurements. We cut our 1 inch wood dowels about an inch shorter so they would fit inside the rack and act as shelves to hold the sprinkles up.
We then took our drill and drilled in the holes to screw in your screws to attach your pieces of wood together.
We then put the screws in the holes and began to drill the large wood pieces together.
All the out pieces have 2 screws on each side and once they are all screwed together, they form a rectangular shape.
Once your rectangle is formed, you take your level and make sure it’s even. You then take your nails and hammer and nail the 1-inch wooden dowels in place. I placed 2 in the middle of the rectangle shape and one above the two and on an angle so the tops of the sprinkle bottles can lean back against the top dowel.
I also placed some wood glue around the dowels to make them extra secure.
Once your dowels are in, you proceed to glue your 2-inch wood pieces to the front bottom and center of the rack. This will hold in your sprinkles on the rack and prevent them from falling out.
You can either stain this rack or paint your rack. I chose to paint mine white to match my décor!
Paint your Sprinkles Rack and let dry for at least 3 hours. That’s it; you’re done! Place your sprinkles inside your brand new Sprinkle Rack Organizer and enjoy!
It’s so great to have them organized in one place and it’s so great that I made it myself. I feel like I accomplished something great in such a short period of time.
