DIY-Candy-Surprise-Mini-Pumpkin-Cake-Recipe Hey All!

Halloween is almost here and I’m beyond the point of excited! It’s my favorite holiday and I look forward to it all year long. For me Halloween means, lots of fun DIY’s, Recipes, and my favorite tasty treats…CANDY of course! We always have a variety of Hershey’s candy for Halloween, because each year they offer new and classic treats for our Halloween celebrations. I’m all about the nostalgia and nothing is more nostalgic than having Hershey candy for Halloween. It’s been a staple in my family since I was a little girl and I’m happy it’s still a staple with us today. With treats like Cadbury Screme Eggs (my husband’s favorite), Orange Colored Kit Kat® (my favorite), Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins, and Hershey’s Candy Corn bars, Hershey adds fun and fantasy to any Halloween celebration and will take your Halloween from just ho-hum normal to an exciting paranormal adventure.

Did you know Americans of all ages celebrate the paranormal activity and mystery of Halloween? In fact, 34 percent of people attend or throw Halloween parties. I’m definitely one of those people, as I have been planning our Halloween party for about a month now!

Hershey was kind enough to send us a huge variety of candy to play with for our Halloween party. I knew I had to do something special with it for our party this year. I didn’t want to just throw it in a pumpkin serving dish or favor bags, I wanted to actually use some of it in my recipes for the food I’ll be serving at the party.

I decided I would make some Candy Surprise Mini Halloween Pumpkin Cakes for our Halloween Party this year. These little adorable Jack-O-Lantern looking cakes have delicious Hershey’s Candy hidden inside them! How fun is that? AMAZING!

MAKES FOUR MINI CAKES:

  • Box of Cake Mix (Also the Ingredients it states you’ll need on your box) or you can use your own cake recipe.
  • A Variety of Halloween Sprinkles.
  • Mini Cake Pans. (The set I got came 3 in a set)
  • 2-3 Containers of Orange Frosting (You can find this at any Target or Grocery store in the Halloween section) or you can make your own and turn it orange with food coloring.
  • Black and Green Icing Tubes. (You can also make your own icing if you prefer)
  • Pastry Bags and Icing Tips.
  • 2 Spatulas
  • Knife
  • Non-Stick Cooking Spray or Butter for your pans
  • Your favorite Hershey Candy. I used Triple Dark Chocolate and Orange KitKat® Bars, Hershey’s Candy Corn Bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins, and Rolo® Minis!
  • Turning Cake Stand. (Not really necessary but it makes frosting the cakes easier.

You can buy as much of these ingredients to match however many mini pumpkin cakes you’d like to make!

How-To-DIY-Recipes

First you mix up your cake mix and bake them in your mini cake pans. I made Halloween Funfetti cake, which is cake baked with Halloween colored and rainbow sprinkles inside. Nothing is better than funfetti cake! Be sure to spray those cake pans with your non-stick baking spray or grease them with butter, so the cakes slide out easily. The cakes will bake in about 15-17 minutes, so be sure to watch them so they don’t burn. Since the cakes are smaller and thinner, they will cook faster than cupcakes or regular sized cakes. You want to make enough cakes to have a top and a bottom to create your pumpkin shape. Each pumpkin uses two mini cakes to create the shape.

Once your cakes are done, remove them from the pans and place them on a cooling rack. You have to let them cool down completely before you create your mini pumpkins. You can put them in the refrigerator or freezer if you’d like them to cool faster.

Once your cakes are completely cool, you then cut off the rounded top that forms on the cake when it bakes. You want the cakes to be flat on both sides.

You then place your frosting on the side of the cake you cut the round piece off. This will be the middle of the cake. You then place some of your favorite Hershey’s candies on the frosting.

You repeat this for the number of cakes you’re making. You can also add some sprinkles to the frosting as you put the candies on.

Once your done with your candy, you place the other piece of cake on top of the candy and press the two sides of cake together. It almost looks like a little hamburger of sweet tasty treats.

You then use one spatula to place your orange frosting in your pastry bags with your icing tips. You then pipe the frosting onto the cake and use your second spatula to smooth out the frosting as you turn it on your turning cake stand. If you don’t have a turning cake stand, just keep turning your cake how ever you can as you decorate it.

Once your orange frosting is done on your cakes, you then top it with two Rolo® Minis candies. You place some black icing between the two Rolo® Minis to hold them together.

You then take your black icing and draw on your pumpkin faces on the cake.

That’s it! You’re done and you have an adorable Candy Filled Pumpkin Cake. Your guests will be pleasantly surprised with when they cut them open at your Halloween festivities.

You do need a flat spatula to move your cakes onto how ever you’d like to serve them. I put mine on a cardboard round disc so I can move them around on the cake stand.
