It’s soon to hit theaters and I had the amazing opportunity to see an advanced screening of the film. Stay tuned for my full review tomorrow! I promise no spoilers! If you missed my Phil Lord and Chris Miller interview, check it out HERE! I also got to interview Issa Rae (Jessica Drew Spider-Woman) and Daniel Kaluuya (Spider-Punk/Hobart ‘Hobie’ Brown) for the film. I got to sit in on an interview with Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy/Ghost Spider/Spider-Woman) and Shameik Moore (Spider-Man/Miles Morales) and I will share one response they shared that I think you’ll all like.

In regards to Issa and David, I had to know if they were familiar with their characters before the signed on to the film.

Issa and Daniel

Daniel:

I wasn’t that familiar with Spider-Punk to be honest. When Chris and Phil and Amy reached out to me about the film, we had conversations about it. They told me about the world and told me about where it comes from, I was like wow! I just wanted to go into it. I wanted to read the comics. I just thought this is amazing that a character exists like this. This character Hobie Brown. It was a great discovery.

Issa:
I was familiar with Jessica Drew, but not this particular art and you know I just tried to read more about it and and learn more about it. I wanted to hear from Chris and Phil what the intension was behind this character. And then I saw the parallels with Gwen’s need and Gwen’s desire for a mother figure, a mentor figure. I thought that was such a brilliant touch. When I got the call to be a part of this, I screamed! I was so excited. It’s I dream I didn’t know I had. I love the Spider-Man world so much! To echo Daniel I was super grateful and just excited to dive in.

For the interview with Hailee Steinfeld and Shameik Moore they had something really great to say about how they relate to their characters and how much they love the fans.

Shameik and Hailee

Hailee:

I think that we’re lucky enough to play these characters that are so incredibly relatable and really just happened to be going through a time in their lives that I believe we all go through at one point, which is just a time in our life where we’re just trying to figure it out and understand who we are. We’re trying to understand how to walk in our purpose and live and be our true self unapologetically. It’s a time in our life where we break away from our foundation and just again really become our own person. I think as far as getting into character it was rather seamless. I still feel like I’m in that phase of life where I’m trying to figure it out every aspect of life and what it has to offer.

Shameik:
I totally agree! We have great directors. The writers did an amazing job as well. The animation is stunning. A lot of it has to do with trust for me. You know putting one foot in front of the other. I agree with Hailee, I’m still in that phase of like figuring it out and I took my Leap of Faith you know what I mean. I’m wearing my mask, but figuring out how I want to wear it is the real task of being a superhero and embracing your knowledge of self. So again with a great director you know you can you can figure it out. We had multiple directors and a great cast and a very loyal fan base. I all like a circle you know. It’s nice!

I can’t thank Sony enough for giving me the opportunity to chat one on one with Phil and Chris about this fantastic franchise.

Stay tuned to my review of the film! Spidey week has begun!
