D23 Convention! Disney’s Upcoming Amazing Movies!

Hey All!

So I had the amazing opportunity to attend the exciting panel for Walt Disney Motion Picture Studios at D23 this past weekend. The panel consisted of the announcement of a roster of projects on the horizon at The Walt Disney Studios. Rich Ross, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios; Sean Bailey, president, production, The Walt Disney Studios; John Lasseter, chief creative officer, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and Kevin Feige, producer and president, Marvel Studios, presented a look at The Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming film slate, which included DisneyToon Studios’Planes, Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph, Disney•Pixar’s Brave, Disney•Pixar’s Monsters University, Untitled Pixar Film From Director Bob Peterson, Untitled Pixar Film From Director Pete Docter, John Carter, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Oz The Great and Powerful, Disney’s The Muppets, Disneynature’s Chimpanzee and Marvel’s The Avengers.

One film I was so excited to learn about was Wreck-It-Ralph! It really is one of the most original premises I’ve heard in a long time. It’s about an 8-bit video old school Nintendo game game type villain who sets out to prove he’s actually a good guy by jumping into other video games! They showed us some amazing footage like Wreck-It-Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) has joined a group called “Bad-Anon”, where video game villains get to talk about their issues in like an AA type meeting.  It was hilarious! Wreck-It-Ralph will head to various games and will end up in a game called “Sugar Rush”, described as “a deceptively sweet world made all out of candy that holds a deceptive secret that could mean the end of the arcade.” Wreck-It-Ralph also features the voice talents of Sarah Silverman as Vanellope Von Schweetz, from the game Sugar Rush, Jane Lynch as Sgt. Calhoun from a first person shooter, and Jack McBrayer as Fix-It-Felix.  Wreck-It-Ralph will be in theaters November 2, 2012.

Another film My family and I can’t wait to see is The Muppets.  At this presentation, we got a look at some exclusive footage! I’m so excited I can’t even tell you! The clips were introduced by Jason Segel, Kermit and Ms. Piggy (who came in on a motor cycle with a bigger biker dude driving)!  The first clip we saw had Gary (Jason Segel), Mary (Amy Adams) and the new muppet, Walter, driving around at night in Los Angeles. They find Kermit’s house and Gary tries to throw Walter over the electric fence, who gets caught in the cables and gets electrocuted.  As they are doing this we then hear Kermit’s voice asking if he can help them from behind them. The three turn around and they see a bright light with a silhouette of Kermit and choir music playing. The camera then focuses on the street where a bus with extremely bright headlights drives by with people singing, the side of the bus noting that it’s a church choir. It was hilarious!

The second clip begins with a bunch of the Muppets, led by Kermit, opening the door to the Muppet Theater, which has been condemned! Gary says that they try to clean it up and then the scene cuts to Scooter standing alone sweeping while the other Muppets watch.  Dr. Teeth takes out a boombox and begins playing “We Built This City on Rock And Roll” by Jefferson Starship and they sing and dance as they clean up the theater! IT WAS AMAZING AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!

Another great film they showed us clips from is Pixar’s first period piece Brave that is set in medieval Scotland! This film seem both epic and funny and features a female lead character for the first time in a Pixar film.

One of the clips they showed us begins with the main character Merida (voiced by Kelly MacDonald) riding on her horse through the woods practicing archery. As she’s about to shoot at her final target, her horse stops dead and she is thrown forward off the horse. Upset with the horse, she picks up some mud and hurls it at the horses face, and the horse blows it back in her face. She walks towards the horse and kisses it on the nose. Suddenly things get dark and in the distance, among some giant rocks, the silhouette of a giant bear can be seen.  This film looks amazing and Brave hits theaters on June 22, 2012.

If your family is a geeky family like mine and loves comic books and attends Comic Con every year then you are like us and are counting down the days of  The Avengers Movie! I mean honestly I think everyone at this panel was at this panel to primarily see footage from this film. I seriously can not wait for this film. We are counting down the days literally! It’s probably going to be the best movie ever, as my teen says! You can image how I had to report back everything I saw at this panel to my family as they showed us some footage from this AMAZING FILM! It also doesn’t hurt that it’s directed by Joss Whedon who is like a god in my home since we all love BUFFY!

The head of Marvel and some of the Avenegers themselves were actually at D23 to present the clips from the film to us! It was amazing to see Thor and Iron Man in real life only a few feet away!

The footage they showed up begins with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) entering a big round cage with glass walls and we see Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) walking over to a control panel.  Loki compliments Fury on his jail, calling it “an impressive cage” and recognizing that it wasn’t built for him. Loki stares into a security camera and we see the various members of the Avengers, including Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) watching him in various monitors. Fury responds that it’s built for something a lot stronger.

The scene then cuts to Fury in the meeting room at another point in the film talking about the Avenger initiative. He talks about assembling a group of remarkable people ready to come together to fight battles that no one else could. A quick flashing montage show various battle scenes such as Thor hitting Captain America’s shield and Iron Man and Cap engaged in hand to hand battle.

We then see Tony Stark pouring himself a drink behind a bar talking. “Let’s get a headcount,” he says…

“We have two assassins” and we see quick clips of Hawkeye and Black Widow fighting on a highway, ” a demi-God”, and we see Thor fighting with his hammer,  “and a living legend who actually lives up to the legend”, We see Cap looking at a locker with his new uniform, “and you, big fella, have managed to piss off all of them.” It’s then revealed that Stark is talking to Loki, who responds by saying, “I have an army.” Stark quickly replies, “We have a Hulk.” We then see Hulk for the first time and he lets out a giant roar. I swear free comic book day and The Avengers May 4th may put my family into a geek coma!

Oh And I can’t forget the Lion King is coming back to theaters and in 3D on September 16th! They didn’t show us anything about this at the panel, but they did have an advanced special viewing of it at D23 on Saturday and it’s amazing!

They showed us so many great films at this panel at D23! I didn’t cover all of them as I would go on forever, but I highly recommend you keep an eye out for all of Disney’s Amazing films to come!
