Hey All!

It’s September and we’re kicking off back-to-school time right with some fun and delicious school-themed Pillsbury™ brownies. Thanks to a fun collaboration with Pillsbury, we’re celebrating our favorite school subjects (like math) by making these fun and easy to make DIY Back-To-School Notebook Brownies! They’re actually little colorful composition notebook brownies to be exact. Pillsbury was kind enough to send us some awesome new Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge frosting and a box of Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix to make them. Pillsbury was kind enough to send us some awesome new Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge frosting and a box of Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix to make them. Pillsbury helps make any baking occasion become a celebration without the hassle of making everything from scratch!

Baking is similar to a math problem and we’re excited to solve this tasty puzzle with Pillsbury!

Here is how to make them:

  • Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix
  • Pillsbury Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge Frosting
  • Pillsbury Funfetti® Hot Pink and Purple Frosting
  • 9×9 Inch Square Pan
  • Baking Spray
  • Food Coloring Pen
  • Candy Licorice Rope
  • School Themed Sugar Decorations
  • White Airheads Candy
  • Spatula

First we pulled out our fun Pillsbury apron and chef’s hat to get started on our school baking adventure.

We then baked up our Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix according to the boxes directions. Make sure to spray your 9×9 inch square baking pan with baking spray, so you’re brownies don’t stick to the pan. Let them cool completely!

We then opened up our New Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge frosting to start decorating our sweet treats! These  New Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag frostings make decorating our sweet treats a cinch in ready-to-go packaging available in three flavors, Vanilla, Chocolate Fudge and Cream Cheese.

I can’t tell you how much I love these Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bags! They are the first-ever pre-filled pastry bag and it makes frosting so much easier and more fun for bakers of all skill levels and ages. They come already with a star tip built in to start decorating. They are a perfect for kids who want to help bake! They’re also a god send for moms, as there is so much less to clean up after decorating as well. Decorating our brownies went so much faster thanks to these awesome new products!

I know! Enough of my raving about how much I love these frostings and back to how to make these tasty treats! We piped the Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge frosting all over the brownie. We then smoothed it down with a spatula.

Once you’re done smoothing out the Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge frosting, you then take your pink and purple frosting and fill some pastry bags or sandwich bags with the frosting. You then begin to make lines and flick the two frosting colors onto the brownie. This gives it that composition notebook look.

After you’ve covered the whole brownie, cut the brownies down to your desired size out of the giant square brownie. You want to keep them rectangular in shape.

Once you have your cut notebook brownie shapes, you then place a school themed sugar decoration on each brownie.

You then cut a piece of Airheads white candies down to size to fit on your brownie. You’ll use your food coloring marker to write out the school subject onto it.

Some of our favorite subjects are Math and Art of course! You can put any subject on the brownie or even your children’s names.

You finish the brownie off with either one or two pieces of sour licorice rope candy cut down to size. This looks like the notebook binding on the brownie. You place it down at the edge of the brownie and you’re done!

How fun are these brownies folks? I think they are so awesome for back-to-school! They are the perfect treat to pack in your kids lunches on their first day and they are also perfect for your kids’ homework time or study dates. You can also surprise your child with a special note to accompany the brownie when you pack their lunchbox! Pillsbury was kind enough to send us a cute note already, but you can print out or get some lunch notes to surprise your child with!

You can even use these as part of a way to teach your kids math lessons.

For example you can count the brownies and how many you have when you start the lesson and how many you have when you’re done with the lesson and have eaten some.

Pillsbury was kind enough to send us some fun problem solving worksheets to do with the kids while we baked.

You can easily make your own worksheets for your own kids and make your own math problems, using the brownies as an interactive example.

It’s so great to take time as a family to learn and grow, while making some of your favorite tasty treats especially during back-to-school time.
