Hey All!
Today I would like to share with you my cutest recipe to date I feel. It’s a Churro Groot based on the character from the film Guardians of the Galaxy. After seeing the film 4 times I fell in love with Groot and I’m nuts about Dancing baby Groot at the end of the film. Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the film. He’s beyond adorable dancing to his Jackson 5! Love him!!!! I immediately thought I have to make this little Groot some how as I can’t find any toys or figures with him as Baby Groot. I just so happened to be eating a Churro I just made and immediately thought a churro would make an amazing Groot!
I got out all my ingredients again and decided to make a Groot Churro.
I have a Churro Maker which came with it’s own recipe for Churros that I used. This recipe uses the Churro Maker so you may want to head over to Amazon or Best Buy and snag one. They don’t cost much honestly. Like $48 on Amazon.
Here is the basic Churro Recipe that came with my Churro Maker to make the Churro Itstelf:
1 Cup of Water
1 Stick of Butter
1/4 Tsp. Salt
1 Tbsp. plus 1 1/2 cups of Sugar Divided
1 Cup All Purpose Flower
5 Large Eggs
2 1/2 Tbsp. Cinnamon
Pastry bags
Plugin and Preheat your Churro Maker.
In a Pot, Bring the 1 Cup of Water, 1 Stick of Butter, Salt, 1 tbsp. sugar and 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon to a rolling boil. Turn the heat to low, ad flour and stir with a wooden spoon until a soft ball forms. Remove from the heat.
Thoroughly stir in one egg at a time and let the dough stand until it can hold its shape. (About 5 minutes)
Transfer the batter into pastry bags and dispense or pour batter onto the wells of the lower cooking surface on the Churro Maker. (Now I overfilled mine so it spilled over to make the top of Groots head)
Close the lid and cook for 3-7 minutes and then remove them with a wooden or plastic utensil. Mix remaining Sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Sprinkle over the warm Churros. That’s it you’re done.
Again make sure you over fill the Churro’s while you’re making them close to the top of the pan so you can get the Groot shape.
To Decorate and make the flower pots Churro you need:
Woodens Skewers
Oreo Cookies
Small Flower Pot
1 Cupcake with Chocolate frosting
Large bowl
Potato Masher
Black Gel or Icing
Wilton Green Edible Shimmer Dust
First you seperate your Oreo Cookie from the Oreo filling and put the cookies only into a bowl and mash them up until they look like dirt as you can see above.
You then take your chocolate frosted cupcake and place it into the flower pot. You pour the chocolate dirt over the cupcake and it looks like a flower post filled with dirt.
You then take your Churro Groot pieces and place them on a Skewer. I used one piece for the top and one for the bottom. I then drew on the mouth, eyes, and some breaks in his bark at the top of his head. I then sprinkled the top with some of the green dust.
Once you’re done decorating your Churro Groot, You stick the bottom of the stick into the cupcake underneath the chocolate dirt in the flower pot. This allows the Churro Groot to stand upright.
That’s all you have to do to make a Churro Groot in a Flower Pot. But if you like chocolate dipping sauce for your Churros I used this one over at Food Network here. Except instead of dark chocolate I used Milk.
You can then enjoy your Churro Groot and cupcake! Honestly he’s almost too cute to eat don’t you think?
I basically carried him around in the cup since I didn’t want to eat him. But then I came to my senses and realized I can never not eat a good Churro!
Boy was he tasty! But still beyond adorable!
I hope you enjoy these Churro Groots and I hope you loved the film Guardians of the Galaxy just as much as I did! Check out Dancing Baby Groot below!
What should I make next? A Rocket Raccoon cake?

That’s a great treat! I still haven’t seen the movie yet!
He is beyond adorable! We have yet to Guardians of The Galaxy, we’d better soon if we don’t want to miss it in theaters.
I’ve never made churros before, but I need a churro maker! As for your Groot churro – Ab.so.freak.in AWEsome! Love it!
Oh my he’s almost too cute to eat, but I’d give it a nibble!
You’re so freaking creative! These are super cute and I bet they taste really, really yummy!
How do I not own a churro maker?!?! That would make me the queen of Taco Tuesday! My kids would be impressed with just regular churros, but I may win awards if I made your Groot version.
This is the most adorable recipe I’ve ever seen, so cute
What a super cute treat idea! I could get myself into some serious dessert trouble if I owned a churro maker.
