DIY Mo Willems Elephant & Piggie Costumes!

Hey All!

I’m sure you all know by now, We love Mo Willems books and we are so excited to be sponsored by Disney-Hyperion for the #ReadMo Ambassador program! As part of this program we’ll be sharing a bunch of fun DIY’s inspired by his books for the next few months. We’re kicking it off the program today with some easy DIY Mo Willems Elephant & Piggie Costumes! We made these in honor of the new We Are in an ART-ivity Book! By Mo Willems. It’s an amazing interactive activity book your kids are going to love!

This book has activities inside for your kids to do like drawing, coloring, sculpting, gaming, puzzling, and more! It’s all inside this first-ever Elephant & Piggie ART-ivity book. It has so much to do, that your kids will enjoy it for hours!

In this book, a new character named Art Vaark joins Elephant & Piggie in this fun creativity filled book. Art the aardvark introduces Elephant and Piggie (and your kids) to an incredible span of artistic styles (like sculpture which you see below) and so much more.

It was created by the same team behind Don’t Let the Pigeon Finish This Activity Book!, which we also loved. This new fun-filled, hands-on creative book features an interactive narrative that invites kids to participate and create along with an exciting, original Elephant & Piggie adventure!

We love the various games inside the book…

And I also love how encouraging the book is to kids. It really showcases to your kids that it’s ok to not be afraid to be artistic and to use their imagination. It even has awards you and your kids can color in to award them for their creativity. I love showing kids praise for doing something they enjoyed creating from their own imagination.

Since we love the book and Halloween is coming up, we thought it would be fun to make an easy facemask and headpiece costume of Elephant and Piggie to wear while we get our ART-ivity on!

Here is how to make them!

  • Gray felt
  • Pink Felt
  • Pink Craft Felt
  • Black Stick On Felt
  • Two Plastic White Headbands
  • Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • Rubber bands
  • Stapler

To make the Elephant costume, you’ll first cut out your Elephant ears and trunk from your gray felt.

You’ll then cut two rubber bands into strings and then tie them together. You’ll then staple each end of the rubber bands to the trunk piece.

Lastly, you’ll tie the ends of the rubber bands on the staples. That completes the trunk facemask part of the Elephant costume.

You’ll then simply hot glue the ears onto the headband to complete the costume.

Leave the hot gluing and stapling for adults only! The kids can help do everything else, if you have your kids help with making these.

There you have yourself one fun Elephant costume! Next you move onto making your Piggie costume.

You simply cut out two triangle pieces of the pink felt. You then glue them onto the white plastic headband like you see above.

Next you cut out two thin strips from the black stick on felt, to make the Piggie nose slits. You’ll then cut out an oval shape from your pink felt and pink craft foam to make the pink portion of the nose.

You’ll place the two black strips onto the front of the pink felt and staple the two pieces together to some rubber band ends, just like you did with the trunk piece before.

And that’s it! You’re done with your Piggie costume!

How fun are these Elephant and Piggie costumes? Too fun!

They are so easy to make and the perfect way to dress up and celebrate a new Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie book.

They are also a fun and easy to make Halloween costume for you and your kids to wear. Who doesn’t want to dress up like their two favorite book characters? I know my family does!

We love this amazing new We Are in an ART-ivity Book! By Mo Willems. You should definitely pick up a copy for your kids today, because I’m sure they will love it just as much as we do! It’s so much fun for the whole family to enjoy!
