DIY Mr. Feng The Mouse Cupcakes!

Hey All!

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Surly Squirrel (Will Arnett) and the gang are back for THE NUT JOB 2: Nutty By Nature in theaters August 11th! The film also stars Katherine Heigl, Maya Rudolph, Bobby Moynihan, Gabriel Iglesias, Jeff Dunham, Bobby Cannavale, Isabela Moner, Sebastian Maniscalco, Peter Stormare, and Jackie Chan. I loved the 1st movie, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when the amazing folks at Open Road Films and the Nut Job 2 wanted to partner with me on a fun DIY post to celebrate the release of this amazing new film. My favorite character from the new film has to be Mr. Feng the mouse, voiced by Jackie Chan! The kids love him and his catch phrase ā€œDonā€™t Call Me Cute.ā€ I knew I had to do a DIY with him the second I saw him. I decided to make some DIY Mr. Feng The Mouse Cupcakes! They are super easy to make with your kids! They don’t have to be perfect, they just have to be cute and tasty for the kids!

This little mouse is a Karate master and beyond cute! I mean look how cute he is with those tough eyes and his little paws of fury! Love him!

I think we captured his cuteness in our cupcakes. Check him out in action in this little YouTube preview of him below:

Seeing him just makes you want to see the movie, just for him right? I know I do! You’ll definitely want to make these fun cupcakes too and here is what you’ll need to make them.

Here is how to make them!

  • White, Black, and Blue Chocolate Candy Melts.
  • Plastic Sandwich Bags.
  • Parchment Paper.
  • Baking Sheet
  • Black Black Decorators Icing.
  • Thin Pipping Tips.
  • Marshmallows.
  • Pink Sixlets Candies.
  • Scissors.
  • Black Food Coloring Marker.
  • Cupcakes With White Frosting. (You can use store bought cupcakes or make your own with a box of Pillsbury Cake Mix and Frosting.)
  • Spatula.
  • Download and Print THIS Printable of Mr. Feng’s Ears for the cupcakes.

Let me first say, that I could have made these easily with fondant and they would have looked a little more perfect, but lets be honest. Most kids don’t like fondant! Heck, I don’t even like the taste of fondant that much. Kids like chocolate, at least my family does and since we were making these for kids to make themselves, I came up with a way to make almost the entire cupcake edible and using edible pieces they will actually enjoy and have fun making.

First you either make your cupcakes with white icing or get some from the store. You then melt each color candy melt inside of a plastic sandwich bag for about 45-50 seconds in the microwave. Let the chocolate cool a little before you had the bags over to the kids. Chocolate can get hot inside the bag and you want to make sure it’s not too hot for their hands. You also don’t want it to get too cold that it hardens.

Once the chocolate is cooled but still soft, begin making the tough eyes for Mr. Feng. You start by making a circle with a layer of white chocolate. You then follow that with a layer of a blue chocolate circle, followed by a layer of a black chocolate circle. You’ll make one big eye for as many cupcakes as you have.

You let the eye harden in the fridge for a minute, but before it’s completely hard take a butter knife and slice the eye ball in half. this makes two tough eyes per cupcake. Make sure to press your butter knife down the center carefully, so the eyes don’t break. Add a tiny bit of white chocolate to each half of the eye to complete each eye.

Next cut a piece of marshmallow in the shape of an oval. Cut the oval in half to make his little mouse teeth. You then use your food coloring black marker to draw a line down the middle to give him two little teeth.

You then start to assemble your cupcakes. First you use your spatula to spread around the frosting so it looks more like fur. You then place two eyes and a pink sixlet for the nose onto the cupcake.

You then draw a line for his mouth with your black icing and then place his marshmallow teeth down.

Lastly you print and cut out his little ears, using THIS FREE DOWNLOAD, and you place your ears into the cupcake. Make sure to remove the ears when your kids are ready to eat. These are the only part of the cupcake including the cupcake cup that isn’t edible. Everything else is edible!

And there you have yourself some cute Mr. Feng cupcakes! You can easy make these with the kids right before you go see the new movie The Nut Job 2!

I think the cupcakes capture the essence of Mr. Feng aka “A Weapon of Mouse Destruction”!

These are some cute and fearsome little mouse cupcakes!

This film once again takes place in Oakton, where the evil mayor has decided to bulldoze Liberty Park and build a dangerous amusement park in its place. Surly and his ragtag group of animal friends band together to save their home, defeat the mayor, and take back the park!

I know we canā€™t wait to take the kids to see the movie in theaters August 11th!
