DIY Rainbow Ladies & Dog Halloween Costume!

Hey All!

So I’m hitting you with some rainbow magic for Halloween today. Check out this super cute and fun DIY Rainbow Ladies & Dog Halloween Costume! I made one version for all my ladies and one for all those dog fur babies, so you can match costumes this Halloween. This costume may look like a very simple costume to wear for Halloween, but let me tell you it is the most comfortable costume to wear. I also just wanted an excuse to make myself a rainbow dress, since I couldn’t find one anywhere!

I love the color of the stripes and the cloud hem. It’s complete with a happy little cloud head piece, because every rainbow needs a cloud right!

It’s such a fun and colorful costume. Here is how to make it!

Let me preface this by saying this is my first time ever using a sewing machine! Yassss! The first time in the history of ever! I’ve always been deathly afraid of sewing machines ever since I heard a woman in the sewing machine section of Jo-Ann’s talking about how she saw a needle fly off the machine into someone’s eye! Yes she said this out loud in the store! I immediately thought heck to the no! Not in my eye you don’t! Never will I use a sewing machine ever! Well I should never had said never, because I decided to overcome my fears and try to use it. I got myself a little beginners sewing machine and got to cautiously sewing this costume. It’s my first time sewing a costume and it’s not perfect of course, but it’s not the hot mess I thought it was going to turn out to be. I think it came out pretty good for a first try!

First, I cut the fabric down to two same sized pieces for the front and back of the dress. I then laid out the fabric with the white back facing out and stripes facing down. I laid my shift dress on top of the fabric and essentially traced the shape of the dress with a pencil. I don’t know if this is how you’re really supposed to make a dress, but it’s just what I decided to do.

I cut out the shape of the dress and with the fabric white side still facing out for both pieces of fabric, I sewed it together with the sewing machine as best as I could. I sewed the sides of the dress first and then did the sleeves and neck. It’s not perfectly straight lines seam wise on each side, but I don’t care. It’s my first time using a sewing machine and I didn’t know what the heck I was doing!

Once the dress was sewn, I turned it inside out so the stripes were now on the outside. I cleaned up any edges and hems with my scissors and then cut out two cloud shape stripes from the white fleece fabric. I hot glued it onto the edge of the bottom hem of my dress. I put a piece of cardboard in between the dress, so the glue didn’t run through the dress.

Next I took the fleece white fabric and laid one piece over the other and cut out a cloud shape. This made two of the same sized cloud pieces. I glued each piece to a piece of white cardstock to give the cloud some steadiness. I then cut out two eyes and a little mouth for the cloud from the black felt. I glued them onto the cloud.

I then glued the cloud onto a white plastic headband and I’m done with my costume!

It’s a stretchy jersey cotton lycra fabric, so it’s so comfortable to dance around in.

If you can’t tell, I’m very happy in my rainbow costume.

Over the moon happy! LOL.

I wanted to have my puppy match me. You can also easily do this costume for your baby to make a mommy and me halloween costume. You can use this rainbow pant set, or this rainbow baby jumper, or this baby rainbow dress to make this costume for your kidlet. I digress…

I simple did the same process that I did to make the happy cloud head piece for my costume, except I made this cloud a lot bigger so it fit the width of the dog tee.

I glued it onto the dog tee and places some card board underneath the shirt as I glued, so the glue didn’t seep through to the other side.

Let it dry and it’s done! You have a little mini rainbow and happy cloud costume for your pooch!

How cute is Mister Pink in his rainbow costume for Halloween? Too cute! He loves it because it’s so simple and easy for him to walk around in. Dogs and babies don’t like fussy elaborate costumes, I’m sure you know.

We both love our happy rainbow costumes!

I hope you love them as much as I do! And thank you for joining me on my first adventure into sewing! I’m sure some of you fabulous folks can sew your butts off and make this costume even better than I could. I can’t wait to see them!
