Fun Facts About Olaf’s Frozen Adventure!

Hey All!

Are you ready to build a snowman once again? The amazing characters from Disney’s Frozen are back with OLAF’S FROZEN ADVENTURE! We recently had an amazing opportunity to attend an event and screening for this 21 minute new holiday classic. It was followed by a Q&A with Josh Gad (voice of “Olaf”), Directors Stevie Wermers-Skelton & Kevin Deters and Producer Roy Conli, a reception, musical performance by songwriters Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson and fun themed activities like drawing demos. Production Designer Mike Giaimo, Head of Animation Brent Homman, Head of Story Brian Kesinger, and Visual Effects Supervisor Josh Staub were also in attendance!

If you haven’t heard about Olaf’s Frozen Adventure here is the brief gist of what it’s about:

Walt Disney Animation Studios heads back to Arendelle this holiday season, unwrapping “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” an all-new 21-minute featurette. With four new original songs, the featurette welcomes back to the big screen the characters that audiences fell in love with in 2013’s Oscar®-winning feature “Frozen.”

Olaf teams up with Sven on a merry mission to comb the kingdom to bring home the best traditions to save this first Christmas for his friends. “But it turns out, traditions are personal,” says Deters. “What one family treasures might seem completely bizarre to another. So Olaf just grabs everything he can. He’ll do anything for his friends.”

Since we got to screen the short, I can tell you first hand it was such a fun and touching short film. The music is on par with Frozen and Olaf is funnier and sweeter than ever. This short will play before Disney Pixar’s Coco, so you’ll be in for double the fun when you go see that amazing animated film on Nov. 22nd!

During the Q&A the filmmakers and Josh Gadd shared a bunch of fun facts that I’d love to share with you today.

The directors shared that the film is all about their holiday traditions and one tradition Director Kevin Deters has is he has two Christmas trees each year and one is a Star Wars themed tree. I’d like to think he saw my tree and stole the idea from me. I kid! Director Stevie Wermers likes to dress her dogs up as the elves from Prep & Landing ( Which she also wrote and directed).

Josh Gad celebrates Christmas and Hanukkah in his house and his favorite holiday tradition is he writes a letter from Santa Clause to his daughters each year and to see his kids open their gifts on Christmas morning. He loves seeing the pure joy on his children’s faces.

Josh also shared he has some difficulty singing the songs, because they keep writing the songs in a higher range than his voice normally goes. He has to work hard to hit those notes that Olaf has to sing. Check out Josh as Olaf singing in the clip below for his song “Time of Year”.

The producer and director also shared there are some easter eggs in the film like you’ll find the elves from Prep & Landing hidden in the film.

It was a blast to hear them speak about the film! I then proceeded to take a picture with Olaf. In case you couldn’t tell if I was having a blast already.

We heard Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson perform one of the songs live and it was magical to see!

Check out our video of the performance below:

These girls are super talented and were hand picked by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the original composers and songwriters from Frozen, to work on this film. They couldn’t do it themselves since they were too busy working on Frozen 2 and more.

We enjoy amazing tasty treats at the reception.

These Olaf Rice Krispies treats were my favorite!

Head of Story Brian Kesinger taught us how to draw Olaf…

Which was so fun and amazing! I can now draw him very well for my own family!

And we got to make Olaf Marshmallow sticks!

How cute are these folks? These would be perfect to make during the holidays! All you need are some large and regular sized marshmallows, candy eyes, chocolate chips, white chocolate, blue edible ink pen and a straw to make them.

This was such a fun event and I’m so happy I got to see Olaf’s Frozen Adventure! I’m sure you and your family are going to love it as much as I do! It’s the perfect little holiday movie!

OLAF’S FROZEN ADVENTURE opens in theatres everywhere exclusively for a limited time in front of Disney•Pixar’s original feature film COCO on Nov. 22nd!
