Hey All!
So you all have heard me raving about the Help on my blog for some time now. I’ve been raving about it and I am currently holding a giveaway in celebration of this film if you saw any of my previous posts about it. Or maybe you’ve heard of the book The Help.
The Help film is based on the phenomenal New York Times best-selling book by Kathryn Stockett. With 3 million copies in print, The Help remained on the NYT best-seller list for 103 weeks, six of which were at No. 1. a provocative and inspiring look at what happens in a southern town when the unspoken code of rules and behavior is challenged by three courageous women who strike up an unlikely friendship.
I loved this movie. I think it’s one of the first Oscar worthy films I’ve seen this year. While I was in San Diego this past weekend for BlogHer I had the opportunity to attend a pre-screening of the movie Thanks to Disney!
I love the folks at Disney for allowing me to have this amazing opportunity to see this film and attend this event at BlogHer! They also give me so many great opportunities that I am always so grateful to be working with them! That alone brings me to tears sometimes. lol. It was so much fun to see the movie with a room full of bloggers like myself who were primarily women. There were some Daddy Bloggers who I heard sobbing just as loud as the ladies.
This movie really captured the emotion and greatness of the characters in the book. It’s not an exact copy of the book on the screen, but it was still amazing none the less. This movie brought me to tears. BUCKETS! Niagra Falls! And I wasn’t the only one crying since I heard sobbing throughout the theater. Now don’t get me wrong. This movie isn’t just some tearjerker film that makes you sob from start to finish. This film is a very moving story that is also loaded with a lot of humor and hope! It is simply a story about some one’s small belief that their voice could create change no matter what the cost.
The Help stars Emma Stone (who will also play Gwen Stacy in the new Spider Man movie!) as Skeeter, Academy Award–nominated Viola Davis as Aibileen, Bryce Dallas Howard, Oscar winner Sissy Spacek, Academy Award nominee Cicely Tyson, and Octavia Spencer as Minny.
This movie follows 3 extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960’s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.
This movie was emotional and funny. It was also great to see some of my favorite characters from this amazing book come to life on the big screen.
It also stars Nelsan Ellis who stars as Lafayette in the show True Blood. I was super excited to see him in the film as well. I love him as an actor! I digress…
I really don’t want to give a lot away regarding the movie itself, but I just wanted to give you the gist of the movie so you can be inspired to see this AMAZING FILM!
The actors were great in this film and the set design and period clothing were spot on. The film makers did a great job of capturing the era and feel of the book. I absolutely LOVED the movie and I’m sure if you see it you will love it too. It may not be appropriate for very small children, but it’s not some rated R movie that your family couldn’t see.
The Help is in theaters now! Run out and see it!
***Disclosure: I was not compensated or paid in any way for this post. I attended a free screening of this film and I am sharing this for the benefit of my readers. All opinions are my own.***
