Hey Girl Hey! This is America!

Hey All!

It’s been awhile since I did a Hey Girl Hey post, but I needed to take today to talk about the crazy that is happening in our country and vent it out. So I try to not get very political on here or talk about political topics, but I wanted to give everyone a history lesson about America since everyone is talking about the horrific separation of immigrant families. First let me say, I’m disgusted and appalled by it as a Hispanic American and daughter of immigrants, I want to do everything in my power to help make it stop immediately.

I don’t understand why it seems like tons of people in this country do not understand we’re a country of immigrants and were founded by immigrants. The only people who can claim this as their country from the beginning is Native Americans and we don’t even have an official national language!  Everyone has a right to believe and support what they want to believe in and say what they want to say in this country. This is America! But we should all agree about human rights and what’s just plain wrong. With that, I have to say I’m not shocked about what is happening like everyone else is. Everyone needs a little realty check and I have to say I’m so sick of everyone saying “this is not who we are” or “this is America or this does not happen in America”. I’m sick of people acting like this is the first time this has happened in the history of America, because they frankly don’t know our history or have Amnesia!

Our history of doing this in America began when the colonizers came over and began separating Native America babies from their parents (and often times murdering women children and babies too). Then we went on to stealing babies from slaves we kidnapped and sold those babies into slavery too. Kids were taken from families back in the day and used to work in factories as young as 8-yrs. old and often slept in horrible conditions in those factories as there were no child labor laws, and we incarcerated god knows how many Japanese-American toddlers in internment camps.

So yeah, America has a long history of doing this and getting away with it, which is why the government apparently thinks it’s ok to do again. So please stop clenching your pearls and saying never has this happened in American and then being shocked and surprised that our government is kidnapping poor Hispanic children from their parents as if “this isn’t who we are!” Yes, it is. And this is who we elected into government. We let this happen and it’s on all of us. It will be a stain on our history like all the stains before it. Knowing our history doesn’t make me any less American by sharing it. It just makes me aware of whether we’re going forwards or backwards in this country. Right now we’re going backwards. We need to acknowledge we’ve still apparently never learned any lessons from our past and have allowed this to happen yet again. People don’t like to hear the truth sometimes, but I like to always keep it real with you all and that’s the truth. This is not the first time this has happened with our country, but hopefully it will finally be the LAST time it happens. All I have is hope. I just wanted to give people a reality check on our history and how we let this happen sadly again. Please trolls don’t try to say I’m Un-American for stating facts of our history. I’m a born and raised New Yorker, married to a veteran who is also part Native American Apache Indian, and come from a military family and have always supported our country. I’ve donated my time at polling and voting stations, I’m active in giving back to my community and actively protest and vote. I’m AMERICAN!

I’m simply disgusted we’ve allowed this to happen yet again. All I can do is try to everything I can to stop this horrible practice, protest, and donate to the ACLU and every other organization fighting to end this horrific practice. We ALL also have to make sure we’ve finally learned our lesson in America about how wrong this practice is or this will happen again in the future. I encourage you to start researching and doing what you can in your neck of the woods.

If you’re outraged by what’s going on and your state representative supports this, VOTE THEM OUT in November! The times of being on the sidelines and not caring about what happens in our country are over. If you do nothing, nothing will change and it will only get worse. If your representatives in your state want to do nothing, find someone who does want to enact change because you should be done with your representative taking us back in time, not fighting for what you believe in and not moving us toward the future.

You can contact your senators/state representatives by picking up the phone and dialing 202-224-3121. You simply state your zip code and say “I live in (what ever city and state you live in) and I support SB3036 the Keeping Families Together Act. Do it daily until this practice is ended. It will take you 2 minutes to do a day. You can learn more about this bill HERE. It’s a first step to try to end this horrible practice immediately!

The ACLU is also filing lawsuits for the immigrants being separated and is fighting to stop this horrific practice as well. If you can spare any money to support them and their amazing work, you can donate HERE to help the ACLU fight for immigrants’ rights. I’ve already donated and will continue to donate when I can.

I hope this post doesn’t come off like I’m judging everyone and blaming everyone for letting this happen and hate America. I’m not and I love my country! I’m just frustrated to see history repeating itself and voicing my opinion and giving a reality check to those who may not know this has happened in our country many times before. Hopefully we can finally learn our lessons as a country and NEVER let this happen again.

And back to our normally bubbly content.
