Hocus Pocus 2 Is The Sequel We’ve Been Waiting For!

The Witches are back! Check out our thoughts on Hocus Pocus 2!

Hey All!

The witches from the 1993 cult classic Hocus Pocus are back in Hocus Pocus 2. Much like the events which took place 29 years ago, a black candle is lit and the sisters have been resurrected and all they want to do eat children and get revenge on the town that scorned them centuries ago.

Where the love between the sisters was fully realized and a major highlight of the first film, we get to see why that bond is so strong. The film opens with a flashback to when the sisters were children and before they became witches; the origin of the Sandersons is revealed! Returning as the Sanderson sisters are Bette Middler as Winifred, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah, and Kathy Najimy as Mary. Though 29 years have passed, all three actresses fall into their characters as though no time has passed at all and continue to have the fun dynamic which made the original so fun.

New cast includes three high school girl friends. Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) is Becca, Belissa Escobedo (The Baker and the Beauty) is Izzy, and Lilia Buckingham (Crown Lake) is Cassie. Also new is Sam Richardson (Veep) who plays Gilbert, the owner of the old Sanderson cottage which he has turned into a “magic shop.”

After accidentally resurrecting the Sanderson Sisters, the girls, who also practice magic, try to find a way to save the town of Salem and return the sisters back to their banishment.

The same tone and humor from the original Hocus Pocus returns in this sequel with a little extra something. The film also focuses a bit more on the relationship between the sisters and even their connection to Book. While the Sanderson Sisters were never unlikeable as villains, there are moments where it is impossible not to feel for them and have sympathy for their situation. The flashback also helps to establish them as just outcasts who had to defend themselves.

Hocus Pocus 2 fun for the home family and it goes without saying that if you enjoyed the first film, this sequel is right up your alley.
