Hey All!

Being that I graduated from NYU with a degree in film and TV and marketing, I love movies with a passion. I especially love having our weekly family movie night. With the sky getting darker sooner these days, I decided it would be great to throw our own little #PopcornPartyTime DIY movie night. Living in the city, we don’t have a backyard, but we do have a rooftop deck. It’s our backyard, and we recently turned it into an outdoor movie theater for our movie night party. I wanted to share just how we did ours, so you could easily do this in your backyard. Or, I should say, do this in whatever you have for a backyard in your home.

For our party, I made a DIY popcorn mix-in bar, printable movie tickets, and a DIY movie projector screen.

Here are the printable movie tickets I made. You can just right click or click on the image to download and print these out for your movie party.

I placed these tickets on the nightstands to surprise my family. I then told them when our outdoor movie party was going to be held. I reminded them to bring their tickets for admission on the day of. I wanted to make it like a real movie experience.

I put down a blanket and laid out all our tasty treats to enjoy during the movie. I collected the tickets when the family arrived. I had a popcorn mix-in bar with our favorite Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter Popcorn.

Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn Box

We love Orville Redenbacher’s because it pops up in minutes, giving you a delicious, light, and fluffy snack that’s perfect anytime. In addition to this delicious popcorn, we had all our favorite candies and sprinkles to mix in to our popcorn for an added fun touch.

Who doesn’t love some sprinkles and candy in their popcorn? I know the kidlets and I do!

The hubby prefers his popcorn plain, as he loves to enjoy the flavor of Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter Popcorn.

To be honest, I could eat it straight out of the pop-up bowl the popcorn pops in. I enjoy eating this popcorn both ways.

Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn Funfetti

To help with our popcorn bar, I had these fun popcorn containers to hold our popcorn. It also gave the party more of a movie theater feel.

Who wouldn’t want to munch on this colorful, tasty popcorn? I know I do.

I added a few fixings to my popcorn, but the kidlet has to have a lot of sprinkles on his, as you can see below.

It’s the perfect snack to munch on during an outdoor movie.

In addition to our popcorn, we had our favorite ginger beer and orange soda drinks. We don’t drink much soda, but I allow it on special occasions like this!

We, of course, had to sip our sodas with fun curly straws. There is no other way to sip our sodas and enjoy our popcorn and movie.

I also had one of our favorite nostalgic candies called satellite wafers to munch on. You have to have some candy for a movie as well. We love these because they have some candy inside that is like sprinkles. We’re all about the sprinkles, in case you couldn’t tell.

Lastly, we enjoyed this mini lemon meringue pie. It’s my favorite, and I thought, Why not enjoy it at this outdoor movie party?

We enjoyed our snacks and waited for the movie to begin. To watch our movie, I made a movie screen out of white wrapping paper, tape, and some light stands I had.

You could easily wrap this white paper around some poles and stick the poles into the grass of your backyard or wrap it around some chairs. Those are just some ways you can make your own DIY movie screen.

We also got a fun mini projector that connects to my cell phone, so we can stream movies right on my phone and project them onto our DIY screen. I put the phone and projector on a stand, of course, so it would reach the screen perfectly.

You simply wait for the sky to get dark and project your movie. Make sure you have some fun pillows and blankets for added comfort if you’re sitting on the grass in your backyard. You could even have your sleeping bags and make it an outdoor movie slumber party. We, of course, had donut pillows.

It was so much fun to munch on our favorite movie theater snacks and to snuggle up together under a blanket as we waited for the sun to go down. It gets cold here at night now, since we’re heading into the winter months. I do miss those warm summer nights.

It’s such a fun and easy way to spend some quality time with your family.
