Disclosure: This is a collaboration with AT&T and Latina Bloggers Connect. All Opinions are my own.
Hey All!
I can multitask like nobodies business. I have a day job, a family, this blog, a house to run, and I’m getting married. Even when I’m always on the go and in a rush I NEVER EVER Text and drive! I have good reason to be adamant about this. One being Texting and driving can be fatal…and I refuse to die by sending a text like “LOL” and I also refuse to put myself at risk for accidentally taking the life of someone else. It’s reckless driving whether you want to believe it or not. Texting while driving is involved in 100,000+ vehicle crashes each year, often causing injuries and deaths.
My second reason is, when I was younger and still living in New York cell phones and texting had just become the newest craze. I was walking down the sidewalk with my teen, who was then a boy. A man on his way to work was walking in the street along the cars with his briefcase. A person while texting and driving did not see this man and HIT HIM right in front of us. The man survived, but this person could have killed this man simply because he was texting. This whole thing honestly would have never happened if he wasn’t texting and driving. It was a life changing moment that made me immediately vow to never to text and drive.
I’m happy to see a campaign like the ItCanWait.com movement has made such an important impact to try to stop things like this from happening. It’s a campaign that is done in partnership with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
Since the movement was launched in 2009, more than 2 million no texting while driving pledges have been logged through ItCanWait.com and social sites including Facebook. The goal is to make texting and driving as unacceptable as drinking and driving. It truly is the same idea and it should be instilled in our young people, especially teens! They need to learn about the dangers of texting and driving. The message is simple, yet vital: When it comes to texting and driving, it can wait.
If I ever see my teen reach for the phone when he’s learning to drive, he knows I will take his phone away FOREVER. He has learned many valuable lessons from what he saw and what the consequences can be. He has taken the pledge and he knows it can wait!
No text is worth dying for or taking someones life for. The goal is to save lives and this campaign is surely going to help do that, which is why I am very passionate about this effort. Anyone can take this simple pledge. You simply go to www.itcanwait.com and Take the no-texting-and-driving pledge! You can Share your promise with others via Twitter using Hashtag #itcanwait and Facebook at www.facebook.com/ItCanWaitNoTextingWhileDriving.
You also want to check out the AT&T DriveMode® app the available for BlackBerry and Android devices such as the BlackBerry Q10.
Blackberry is kind enough send me this device to try the app on and I can’t wait to see it in action when I receive the BlackBerry Q10.
What makes this app so special you ask?
Well, Once downloaded and set up on your device, the app will turn on automatically once your vehicle starts moving 25 miles per hour. Anyone who tries to text or send you an email will receive an auto reply message telling them you’re currently driving and will get back to them soon. I think that’s pretty amazing and it ultimately helps stop the temptation of answering a text while driving. People will get the hint and not text you until you text them back when you’re aren’t driving anymore. I just hope this app because available for all types of phones soon!
If you’d like to try this AWESOME App for yourself and support this amazing cause then you can enter to win a AT&T “ItCanWait” gift bag including the following items:

I took the pledge, though I follow it already. People texting while driving infuriate me… When I see someone doing it, I want to grab them out of their car at the stoplight and stick that phone where the sun never shines! They are so dangerous! I was rear-ended by a 16 year old who was reading a text from her boyfriend. I now have 2 ruptured discs in my back and neck and nerve damage on my left side for life, because she couldn’t wait to get home that was 3 minutes away first, before reading.
