Joining The Fight To End Child Hunger!

Hey All!

It’s hard to believe that in this day in age there is still hunger in the world. Especially when so much food goes to waste. More specifically it’s shocking to learn that child hunger is more prevalent than ever. 16 million kids in America aren’t getting the food they need. It’s hard to explain that to small kids and they can’t quite understand why someone would not have enough food to eat. When you’ve never been with out food it’s hard to comprehend. We try to do our best to make sure we explain to our family what it means to be truly hungry and needy. Our teen gets it as he’s a teenager who knows kids who are going through tough times, but the younger kidlets don’t quite understand it. We decided to take them to the park and sit them down and explain what it is (which is always uncomfortable for them). We also thought showing them what they can do to help to end these kinds of negative things in the world would help them understand better. One way they can help is they can help hungry kids by donating to organizations that help kids in need. That’s why ConAgra Foods and the ConAgra Foods Foundation are harnessing the power of youth to tackle this issue in neighborhoods across the country.

For more than 20 years, ConAgra Foods and the ConAgra Foods Foundation have been committed to fighting child hunger in America, donating food and investing in partnerships to find solutions that are within reach. ConAgra inspired us to donate to our local favorite charity Children Mending Hearts which teaches kids how to help kids in need while also helping kids in need that are hungry, in need of school supplies, or are just in need. It’s an amazing charitable organization.

We all sat down as a family and made a list together to get a bunch of foods and toys to donate to Children Mending Hearts. We wanted to actively get ConAgra brands since they inspired us to do this. We went to our local store that sells both food and toys with a $50 gift card and got about 20 cans of food, some hot chocolate with marshmallows, and some toys to donate to kids in need. We were supposed to only buy food to donate but we figured if the kids are in need of food, they are probably in need of toys too!

We made sure to buy foods that kids would love like Chef Boyardee and Dennison’s Chili!

My teen firmly believes every kid should get the chance to enjoy some Swiss Miss Marshmallow Hot Cocoa. Hence why we got them.

We packed it all up and delivered it to Children Mending Hearts where they will stick everything in those fabulous blue bags and hand them out to kids in need! They were so excited to get the donation they helped me style it up so I could take this snazzy picture you see below! How cool is that stand they put under the cans with their name on it?! Love it! Organizations like this and companies like ConAgra are doing all they can to help stop child hunger. Donating a small bag of food can make a big difference in a child’s life. Teaching your kids the importance of helping others is a valuable lesson they will need to learn to grow up to be good well rounded adults.

1 in 5 kids is at risk for child hunger, which affects every county in America. Fortunately, there are easy ways for families to get involved and make a difference in their own community. Visit to learn more and for inspirational project ideas.

One easy way to get involved is to look for the red pushpin (like the one you see below) and locate the code found on specially marked ConAgra Foods products. For each 8-digit code entered at from March-August 2015, ConAgra Foods will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America, up to 3 million meals.

Solving child hunger isn’t something we can do alone! ConAgra partnered with Soul Pancake to hear what kids thought about the issue and ways we all might be able to help. Check out what kids had to say HERE.
