Hey All!
I recently had the amazing opportunity to meet the beautiful Julianne Hough and the oh so dreamy Josh Duhamel to discuss their roles in Nicholas Sparks book to film Safe Haven being released tomorrow Valentine’s Day. This is a departure for both actors and both really dove into their characters after seeing their performances in this film. You could really tell they worked hard to really become these characters. I was super excited to meet Julianne, as I’ve loved her since her Dancing with the Stars days.
She was very personable and looked fabulous. She described her style as “Fashion Forward.” We discussed everything from how she got the role:
“This one stuck out to me, obviously for many reasons, Nicholas Sparks being one, the stories, the characters, finding our self and through love. And so, I loved it.”
To her preparation for the roles…
I actually visited some women’s shelters. I have friends, I have family, I’ve gone through things that I could pull from. And also, you’ve had nightmares and dreams. You know how you wake up from them.
I think it’s amazing that she actually spent time with Victims of domestic violence in order to really understand what someone in that situation has gone trough. She also spoke about how dreamy it was to snuggle up to the sexy Josh Duhamel. It wasn’t hard to play a character that has to swoon over him needless to say!
And before our time was up she also gave some tips for Little girls wanting to perform and dream of being an actress one day.
I would say that make sure that you’re really enjoying and working hard at the same time, know that it is going to be a struggle, but most of the time, the things that you struggle for the most are what make you the most proud in the end. It makes you who you are, so just don’t give up on that.
And when the fabulous Josh Duhamel came in we all swooned! As you can see I barely reach his armpit he’s so tall!
I got a sense from Josh that he really put his heart and soul into capturing what it would be like to be a single dad in this film. When we spoke to him he conveyed and stressed how much he put into the fact that he wanted to build a relationship with the child actors in the film in order to really get a sense that they are a family in the film.
I sat next to the dreamy guy and he was just as charming and personable as his character in the film!
You can really get a sense as to why he was the perfect choice for this role when you meet him. He actually wanted to play the villain in this film. It was actually a challenge for him to play a single dad. Which is honestly so true to life. Being a single parent and even playing one is one touch role to play!
It was funny because I didn’t know what to do with this guy when I first read it, and I wasn’t going to do the movie at first. And then, I read it again about a year later, and it had really gotten better. I felt like there was more to do, but I still wanted to play Tierney [Kevin Tierney, played by actor David Lyons]. I wanted to play the bad guy.
Another part of the film that was a challenge for Josh was the Dance scene. It’s one of my favorite scenes in the film and luckily it turned out to be his too!
That dance scene. I fought against it. I didn’t want to do that scene because it felt like, why would we just start dancing? You know, who does that? But, luckily, I wasn’t expected to be a good dancer. And the more we did it, the more we practiced it, the more we messed it up, the more fun it got. And what was originally my least favorite scene turned out to be one of my favorite scenes in the movie. And oftentimes, that happens. Things you think you’re going to hate you end up loving and vice-versa.
He was great to chat with and we all loved hearing about his experience making this film.
I love film and Highly recommend you run out and see it tomorrow for Valentine’s Day! It’s a Nick Sparks movie! You can’t go wrong with those on Valentine’s Day!
Here is a little about the film if you haven’t read my previous post:
Safe Haven is an affirming and suspenseful story about a young woman’s struggle to love again, Safe Haven is based on the novel from Nicholas Sparks, the best-selling author behind the hit films The Notebook and Dear John. When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love in this deeply moving romantic thriller.

Wow, I cannot believe Josh wanted to play the villain! The casting of David Lyons for that role was so unbelievably perfect. I have been enjoying him in Revolution, and just can’t imagine Josh as the villain. He is too swoon worthy for that!
