My Interview With Katherine Sarafian Producer Of Disney Pixar’s Brave! #Disney #Brave

Hey All!

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to enjoy an amazing lunch with some of my fellow LA Bloggers and the amazing producer of Disney Pixar’s Brave, Katherine Sarafian! We were chatting with her in honor of the fabulous movie now out on Blu-Ray!

We had the most amazing lunch and we chatted with her about everything from Brave, her family, and  her love of the country of Scotland. The food was amazing as well.

Katherine was fabulous and here is a little of what we spoke about!

Was Merida always a young girl?

Yes she was. She was inspired by Brenda Chapman, one of the directors, who came up with the idea of Brave based on her own experience with her daughter.

Was the film always planned to be set in Scotland?

The film was always planned to be set in Scotland because Brenda is of Scottish ancestry. The power of the land with its many stories, magic, legends, and fairies made Brenda fall in love and wanted it set there.

What type research went into the film?

We took trips to Scotland and our first trip in 2006 and we did another research trip in 2007.

How long did it take to make this film?

It took years and much longer than the average Pixar movie to make this film as we developed software for this movie in order to make it. So our release date kept getting pushed, which worked in our favor in the long run. We would have had Merida’s hair come out as it did if we didn’t wait.

Will there be another Brave Movie?

Katherine: Where would you like to see Merida?

Me: I’d love to see her ruling in the clan and dealing with the issues and responsibilities that come with being a ruler.

Katherine: You’ll just have to wait and see. As of now there are no plans for a Brave 2.

Have you returned to Scotland since the movie has been released?

Yes, we went back to Scotland for the premiere of the movie. One of the highlights for me was after the premiere we drove up to the highlands. It was overwhelming to see the people embrace the movie after the premiere and to go back to the highlands.

What was the local response to the film?

The premiere sold out in just 20 minutes. We had never up until the premiere watched it with a Scottish audience. The Scottish audience loved the film. We were so happy to know that we had gotten it right.

Thanks so much to Katherine Sarafian, the Fabulous Sabrina and all the Disney Features PR team for such an amazing lunch!
