Hey All!
As school is about to begin for us and summer is about to end, it can be a great deal of running around to get ready for back to school. I need to get back to school supplies, get those before school doctor check ups done, fill out tons of paper work for the schools, and go shopping to get those fabulous first day of school outfits.
It’s an insanely busy time to say the least. If you’re like me and you have a job along with a family, you probably even have less time than most. I’m always looking for ways to save time and make things easier for me and my family. There is nothing worse than running around in the morning trying to get everything ready for yourself and your kids. I know we all want the summer to last forever and we all want to enjoy those last few days you have of vacation, but it’s never a good idea to leave things to last minute. I say plan, get ready, and then enjoy.
I wanted to share a few tips that I found have helped me save time and stay stress free for Back To School time.
First:
All day fun day sadly has to come to an end. The month before school start getting the kids used to going to sleep at an hour that will give them enough rest and time in the morning to get ready. Starting a month before will have them already used to sleeping at that time and used to getting up at that hour. It will prevent the “I don’t want to get up” faces in the morning and it will save you time and energy in not having fight to get your kids out of beds.
Second:
Get the outfits for not only for the first day of school, but for the whole week of school planned out for your kids. This will save you so much time during the week. You don’t have to try to figure out what they will wear each day. If you plan the outfits for the entire week, Each day you can just simply pull the outfit out of the closet or drawer and lay it out for them. It’s a simple and easy time saver.
Third:
Plan Your dinners for the week for your family. If you have their meals planned for the week, you won’t have to spend time figuring out dinners on school nights. Remember kids will need help with school work and I personally would rather spend time helping them with school then trying to put together meals.
Forth:
Plan and pack your kids lunches the night before. Don’t wait until the morning of. Mornings during the week are hectic enough. You don’t want to add more to your plate when you already don’t have a lot of time. You can simply grab their lunches out of the fridge and your done.
Fifth:
Get organized! There is nothing more important than this tip. Organize your kids books and school supplies by class. Keep them in folders, bins, or cubbies if you have them. For younger kids you can even use shoe boxes and decorate each box to match each subject and put the supplies in. It’s always great to have everything in a designated area, so you don’t have to spend time trying to find the things they need for school.
By doing all these tips you can definitely save a lot of time getting ready for back to school. You can spend the time you save enjoying those last few days of summer. That’s the way I would want to spend my time, don’t you? I hope theses tips help you as much as they help me!

I had a chance to test drive a Traverse this summer and LOVED it!
I’d love a Traverse, I’m a total Chevy girl.
These are great tips! I try to have as much as possible ready the night before.
I never thought of planning the whole week of clothes and I suck at planning food all together, thanks for the tips as you can see I really need them LOL. I”m a day to day type of person.
The big takeaway from all of that is to PLAN. Great tips!
Meal planning is huge around here, the weeks I don’t do it everything seems to fall apart, LOL!
Planning is so important all around from clothes to meals for the week. It makes everything go so much more smoothly.
If I don’t pack my daughter’s lunch the night before. it doesn’t get made and she has to buy.
I wish that I had done a better job getting us all ready for earlier bed times and earlier morning. That’s still our biggest issue.
We DO have a few things that we are doing well — the outfits get chosen on Sunday nights, ironed, and put on a special (low) rod. Then, each morning, the kids can get themselves dressed easily.
For lunches, I try to do a lot on the weekends (fruit/veggie prep, freeze homemade uncrustables, etc) and then put lunches together the night before school. Helps SO much to have the mornings free from lunch prep!
Packing my sons lunches the night before has helped me plan for my lunches for work too!
I just started to get into meal planning.. it does save a lot of money.
These are great tips! We use the one about getting them to go to bed earlier a month before school starts, it really helps get them back on schedule.
The dinner planning is the one I need to work on. The rest I am good at but the dinners just get away from me sometimes and it totally shows in the whole week.
Those are great tips! I had no idea what I was doing for back to school this year since it was my son’s first year of school so these are awesome to keep in mind for next year!
