Hey All!
I recently had the opportunity as you know to see the film and attend a Q&A for Disney’s Million Dollar Arm. This film is an inspirational sports movie like those that Disney has produced in the past, except this one has a lot of heart.
The movie is based on true story of a down-and-out sports agent named J.B. Bernstein (played by Jon Hamm) and his business partner Aash (Aasif Mandvi) who are on the verge of losing their entire business.
J.B. is desperate and contemplating the thought of losing everything when he notices cricket’s similarities to baseball. He remembers his partners love of cricket and immediately believes that he must head to India to find the next big baseball talent.
When he arrives in Mumbai to find America’s next star baseball pitcher he is immediately a fish out of water. The sites and smells of India take their toll on J.B. as he takes his Million Dollar Arm challenge around India. To help him on his search he recruits (Alan Arkin) a bored scout who only awakens when he hears a good arm. This adds some great comedic scenes while in India.
He ultimately finds two talented teenage Indian players and brings them back to the states. The story of Dinesh (Madhur Mittal, from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rinku (Suraj Sharma of “Life of Pi”) is truly inspiring. The new world and new family dynamic experienced by these two terrified and alienated teenagers is sweet and powerful.
As Dinesh and Rinku struggle to qualify for the major leagues, J.B. learns what it’s like to love a family and some one else. Through out the film a love story is also interwoven into the story between J.B. and his guest house doctor resident Brenda played by Lake Bell.
It’s a very sweet story about what it means to be a family and what it’s like to overcome and beat the odds when they are against you.
It’s a film the entire family can see and enjoy. Which is rare these days.
MILLION DOLLAR ARM opened in theaters everywhere today!

This looks like a pretty good movie. I lived in India for a while after high school and watched a lot of Cricket, so the whole story line is intriguing to me.
This is certainly a unique storyline.
My son really wants to see this movie… hopefully this coming weekend we can see it.
Sounds like it could be a good movie. (fyi, you have the same picture in the post twice)
