Our Thoughts On Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & A Mobile Game Code Giveaway!

Hey All!

The Turtles are back, well I shouldn’t say that as they never really left. They’ve stayed around with a new animated series and movie. When viewing the new live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, it’s important to remember that this is not like any previous iteration of the heroes in a half-shell. Just like every generation has their own version of Batman, now every generation has their own Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The cartoon I grew up on was not the same as the original comic book. And the movie that came from the popularity of the cartoon was more like the comic book. Now 30 years later, a new film has come that is this generation’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As much as I wanted to see some trace of the old turtles I grew up with, I took this movie for what it was, a new telling of TMNT.

The film has a car chase down a snow-capped mountain in typical slow motion Michael Bay fashion which does look cool. It also opens with a great comics-inspired credit sequence that was very creative.

The film does have it’s share of comedic moments that did make me chuckle, for example a scene in which the Turtles beat box in an elevator was funny. And Michelangelo finally saying Cowabunga was nostalgic. I just can’t help but feel like the movie should have focused more on the Turtles and Less on April O’Neil. I also wish the film would have at least paid some sort of homage to the films that came before. Like would it have been so much to ask for a Taxi driving by driven by Vanilla Ice and him saying “Go Ninja Go Nija Go!” I probably would have cried tears of joy if I saw that and would have raved to the heavens for everyone to see it for that scene alone.

Nevertheless I am happy to see the Turtles still around today and being introduced to a whole new audience. The kids today won’t know of the Turtles from 30 years ago (God i Feel Old) and I feel like they will enjoy these Turtles on the big screen. I still remember going to see the Turtles Live at Radio City Music hall and singing “We’re coming out of our shells!”

I miss the Turtles I grew up with, but I’m happy to share some version of the Turtles with my family today.

Here is a little about the film if you don’t know anything about it:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.
