CLOSED-Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is an Amazing Movie! My Review & Giveaway!

Last night I had the privilege to take a few hours to see a movie I have been anticipating on seeing for a while… I got the chance to see Scott Pilgrim vs the World at my favorite theater the Archlight cinema last night. I have to say it was one of the best and truest to the comic book movies I’ve seen in some time. The casting, editing, soundtrack, directing, performances, and special effects were all amazing. I haven’t been this impressed with a Comic book movie since I saw Sin City some years ago.

The director Edgar Wright and the writers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have truly gotten the spirit of Scott Pilgrim perfect in my opinion. This trio works very well together as they have also brought you the films Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

The movie follows Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), a 22 year old unemployed slacker who plays bass in music group called Sex Bob-Omb. He lives in a one bedroom apartment sharing a bed and sponging off his gay friend Wallace (Kieran Culkin). He has a sister (Anna Kendrick) pushing him to find direction with his life and he is having a relationship with a catholic Chinese high school girl named Knives(Ellen Wong) and their relationship consists of Dance Dance Revolution and tours through thrift shops in their native Toronto. Scott’s world is turned up side down by a woman literally out of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). As he tries to form a relationship with her, he finds he has to take on a legion of her 7 evil ex-boyfriends in mortal combat in order to win her heart. The final battle with the exes is a one-on-one confrontation with Gideon (Jason Schwartzman) and himself since he also ends up as a ex boyfriend.

The action sequences in this movie are amazing and it is incredibly funny. I laughed out loud in the 1st few minutes of the film. I knew this film would be funny and amazing the minute the movie opened with the Universal Pictures logo and music theme created to look and sound like an old Nintendo Game.

I have to admit before I saw the movie I was a little weary as to whether Michael Cera would be able to kick butt and take names as Scott Pilgrim, but I have to say he exceeded my expectations and is perfectly cast film. There are even cameo roles from, Chris Evans, Thomas Jane, and Clifton Collins Jr. that are incredibly funny in this movie as well. The movie and story itself is very strong, but it’s in how the director Wright created the world and sounds of Scott Pilgrim that made the film go from being good to to being amazing to me. I found myself dancing and moving in my seat to the music in this movie and immediately came home after wards and downloaded the soundtrack off of Itunes because it is so good. It features all original music from Beck and other artists including the original music from the actual comic book come to life.

It’s done so well and I highly recommend everyone go see it asap. It might not be good for small or younger children so please be advised, but for adults and teens it is a must see. The director Edgar Wright made this movie one of the best movies I’ve seen thus far this year.
