This post is brought to you by The UPS Store and The Motherhood, and I’ve been compensated for my time. However, all opinions are my own.
Hey Everyone!
The UPS Store realizes how important it is to support small businesses, and so do I. I’m taking the Shop Small Challenge. On Small Business Saturday on November 30 I’m shopping at my favorite shop Rocket Fizz!
Rocket Fizz is a small candy store in my neighborhood where I can find those rare old fashioned candies I love that I wouldn’t be able to find in a big chain store. I would never have candies like my favorite Satellite Wafers (yes those are a candy look it up) if I didn’t have a shop near me like Rocket Fizz. I’d never get to enjoy those candies if it weren’t for them. I can’t find those candies any where else! I love to shop small for this reason. You can find products you wouldn’t find any place else at small businesses.
Our favorite bakery Big Sugar Bake Shop has some cupcakes and butter cookies we couldn’t live with out! With everything going digital we can’t find good Comic book shops now a days, so I’m so thankful to have an amazing Comic Shop Earth 2 Comics that we visit every other week to shop!
It’s heartbreaking when I see a store I love close because they didn’t get enough business to afford to pay their rent. This really is a tragedy to a neighborhood in my opinion. Please Check out the small businesses in your community and please shop small on Small Business Saturday!
Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 and supported by The UPS Store, is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country. Celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (this year, November 30), Small Business Saturday inspires people to shop and support small businesses, and give back to the places that have given their communities so much.

Last year I ordered Christmas stockings from a small Etsy shop. When they arrived I had 3 extra in the package. I called, thinking I had accidentally gotten someone else’s order, and to my surprise they were mine to keep. The Etsy owner had put them in for free. I just love that about small businesses; not so much the point that you get more, but the point that they go the extra mile to keep their customers happy. I find small businesses always have better service and usually better quality items.

One of our favorite Italian bakeries is family-owned. Last year at this time I went in with my 3 year old son. It was a long wait. When the young man behind the counter waited on us he commented on how well-behaved my son had been and how much my son reminded him of himself at that age…he had grown up in the bakery. He let my son pick out whatever he wanted–no charge. It was awesome 🙂
