Take Advantage Of Open Enrollment!

Hey All!

I don’t know about you, but I grew up in a household that always cared about health care and the kind of insurance benefits we had. My mom worked in human resources and as a benefits administrator for over 40 years until she retired. She knew all the insurance companies and all the processes for enrollment inside and out. She always made sure she had the best insurance for me, because I was always in and out of the doctor as a child. Growing up with a mom who really cared about her health insurance options made me grow up to be the same way with my own family. Now that she’s retired, I needed to find other options to stay up to date on the ins and outs of our health care options. I’m thrilled to be partnering with Dignity Health today to share those options and why open enrollment is so important to me. It should be important to you too!

Dignity Health, one of the nation’s largest health systems, is a multi-state network (primarily in California, Arizona and Nevada) of 10,000 physicians, more than 60,000 employees, 39 acute care hospitals and 400-plus care-centers, including neighborhood hospitals, urgent care, surgery and imaging centers, home health, and primary care clinics. I digress…

Open Enrollment is the time period for which you can enroll with your insurance company aka choose the best health insurance plan for you and your family. In California it happens between Oct. 15th, 2018 and Jan. 15th, 2019. Open Enrollment is something I’ve always taken very seriously and have marked on my calendar. I usually get mine done the first month it opens, as I never want to miss my open enrollment period. If you’re not happy with your current plan, it’s the time of year when you get to change! I want to take my time researching all my options because I know it can be overwhelming. Dignity Health conducted a survey that polled Californians on how they feel about Open Enrollment.

You can imagine my surprise when I learned that nine in ten of my fellow Latinos (88 percent) find it stressful to research health insurance options during Open Enrollment. It shouldn’t be stressful and it shouldn’t be something you rush through. You have months to do your research and you shouldn’t wait until the last day of your Open Enrollment to figure it out. Selecting a health insurance plan for your family should be one of the most important tasks you do all year, sadly one in five (20 percent) of Latinos spend less than an hour researching their options during Open Enrollment season.

This year I’m doing what I can to spread the word to my fellow Latinos that Open Enrollment doesn’t have to be stressful. They are great tools out there like the Dignity Health website that can help you with making those decisions. I’m lucky to have this tool along with the help of my mom whenever I have any questions about making our health care choices. I want to feel confident I made the best choices with my health care and you should too!

Dignity Health wants people to feel comfortable and confident in their health care decisions, so you can feel good that you made good choices. Whether it’s choosing the right coverage to the right physicians, you should make time to choose what’s best for you and your family.

The site is very helpful and I assure you it’s no way as stressful as the DMV or a root canal! Open Enrollment doesn’t have to be stressful in any way. You can think of it as you get 3 months to shop for your family. Three months folks! I know we’re all super busy and we often feel like we never have a moment to ourselves, but this is something that will affect you and your family for the rest of your year and it can even affect your life god forbid something happens that you need to rely on your health benefits.

Spend 30 minutes a day doing some research on your health options, so you can be better informed and make a more researched decision about the health care insurance you select during open enrollment. Also make sure you get it done before January 15th!

My family is the most important thing to me and I’ve made sure that we’re set with the best plans for 2019! I have a growing baby that I’m sure he is going to have to go to the doctor more and more as he gets older and starts dealing with other kids and more germs.

I know we’ll be covered. I hope you’ll find the right coverage for you and your family. If you need any help doing research I highly recommend you visit www.DignityHealth.org/enroll!

This is such important information. I just saw on Twitter a few days ago that enrollment is down 10% because the marketing budget had been slashed so much. I hope more people will remember to sign up/reenroll in time.
