Hey all!

Growing up very poor and in the projects of New York City, it was always instilled in me to do better for myself. I was encouraged by my mom and my Aunt Sylvia to get an education so that I could have a successful career in whatever field I chose. I always had my aunt helping me, giving me advice on how to dress for job interviews, and how to nail my interviews. She would buy me clothes to wear to my interviews as I was a broke college student and my mom was helping me pay for college. My mom couldnā€™t afford to do both. She made a good living and would always help me in any way she could when my mother could not. I always considered my aunt a mentor since she also gave me the tools and knowledge I needed to succeed in every career path I chose. I was very lucky. Not too many people are lucky to have that kind of mentor in their lives.

Thankfully, there are organizations like Dress for Success and TracFoneĀ  that help provide women across the country with the skills and tools they need to enter into and thrive in the workplace. During the month of April at Walmart, TracFone will donate 20% of its handset sales, up to $525,000, to Dress for Success to help disadvantaged women build successful careers and make that critical first impression during phone interviews.

Women who complete the Success is Callingā„¢ program through Dress for Success will receive a new TracFone smartphone and one year of airtime to support them as they prepare to enter the workplace. The device serves as an ideal tool to create job-readiness, instill confidence, and assist budget conscious consumers who are seeking to unlock their career potential.

This program is doing so much to help women. My aunt gave me such great advice for nailing my job interviews, and Iā€™d like to share with you four of her key tips for landing your dream job.

1. Before a job interview, do something relaxing like give yourself a manicure or watch a funny TV show so that you can decrease your nervousness before an interview.

2. Research the company and what the atmosphere of the office is like, if you can. This will help you in your decision of what to wear. If the office is business casual, you probably donā€™t want to wear a full suit to an interview. You may come off as though you donā€™t fit in their environment.

3. Focus on your strengths and what you can bring to the position in the interview. Be proud of your accomplishments. If you donā€™t have a lot of experience in the position you are applying for, showcase what you can do and why you think you would do the job efficiently.

4. Offer to be an intern or to work for a trial period if the company is on the fence about hiring you. It will give them the opportunity to see how you work and why you would be perfect for the job. It will also demonstrate how much you want the position.

I hope these tips and this amazing program help you find the success you are looking for and the job of your dreams! Do you have any tips of your own? You can share them on Twitter using the hashtag #SuccessisCalling and youā€™ll be entered for a chance to talk about career advice from TracFone partner Vanessa Williams! Rules can be foundĀ here.
