My top entertaining tips are to put out plenty of snacks that people can help themselves with. Also, I had my kids help with decorating, so it keeps it nice and personal.

If you’re having family over, ask them to bring a dish. Pot luck parties are a lot easier to manage than doing all the work yourself.

My tip is to have healthy alternatives available for those watching their weight. It’s terrible to go to a party and everything is a ka-zillion calories a slice. I personally like to mix fruit and vegetable plates in with the other “sweet” stuff and anything else I can think of that’s a healthier version of our holiday favorites. Also not everyone likes artificial sweeteners. I’m one of those people. I’m so appreciative when someone makes sure I have an unsweetened version of tea with sugar on the side if I need it instead of the artificial stuff.

Do as much as you can before the party. Plan your menu so you won’t have to spend too much time in the kitchen once guests arrive. Prep foods so hot foods only need to be heated. Think of everything & anything that can possibly go wrong and have a back up plan in case it does so that a minor problem doesn’t end up being a disaster!

When I have guests over, I try to put finger foods on a buffet table away from the kitchen so that people can spread out and not be jammed all in one room and I can still get food ready in the kitchen.
