Wreck It Ralph Interviews With The Filmmakers & Cast! #WreckitRalph #Disney #Movie

Hey All!

I recently had another amazing opportunity to attend a Disney Wreck it Ralph press day to meet with some of the cast of the film!

I again showed my Wreck it Ralph love by wearing my 8-bit Ralph tee, that you can see in the picture above that was taken at the previous event I attended.

At this event I would have the amazing opportunity to interview…

  • Rich Moore, Director
  • Clark Spencer, Producer & Phil Johnston, Writer
  • John C. Reilly, voice of Wreck-It Ralph
  • Sarah Silverman, voice of Vanellope von Schweetz
  • Jane Lynch, voice of Sergeant Calhoun

As well as PAPERMAN Director John Kahrs.

This was one of the best press events I had ever been to as they not only had Ralph there surrounded by his game Fix it Felix (which you could play)…

They also had some of my favorite arcade games on display to play with while you waited.

I got on the Street Fighter Game and kicked some butt as Chung Lee!

It was a lot of fun to relive my childhood playing those games to say the least.

They also had the amazing new Wreck it Ralph toys on Display!

I can’t tell you how much I love these Venelope toys because they are so darn adorable. She reminds me of my mother when she was a kid. She has that dark black hair and round face. Stay tuned for my review and feature of the toys in my Holiday Gift Guide as well as my review of the Art of Wreck it Ralph book. This book is beautiful and I seriously wanted to take the toys and book home with me that day!

I digress…

I could wait to chat with the filmmakers and stars of the movie. I’ve been following this movie since it was announced at D23 last year! I’ve been in love with it since I first heard about it. This movie is a geeky families dream movie come to life and here is what the director and stars had to say

John C. Reilly, who is the voice of Wreck-It Ralph, spoke to us about how involved he was in the script and process.

Rich Moore (The Director) was really nice that way. He really included me in a collaborative way as a director, got me to come into story meetings and you know, solicited my ideas. Not that any of them are used ā€“ no, some of them, some of them were. And he really encouraged me to take a personal approach with the character and improvise a lot. And I encouraged him to have the other actors in the recording studio, which I guess is not such a common thing with animated movies. Usually you record separately and then they splice it all together. But I thought, with someone like Sarah Silverman or Jack McBrayer or Jane Lynch, like those guys are really nimble improvisers and very witty people so we’d be able to throw some stuff back and forth, and yeah, definitely.

When I asked John if Ralph could have any power other than wrecking things what would it be? He answered.

It would be teleportation!

He also confessed that he wouldn’t have been able to make the film if the director didn’t allow him to actually record his scenes with the other actors in the room with him.

Jane Lynch, voice of Sergeant Calhoun, came in after John and the first thing I asked her was what was her favorite line in the movie, since she had so many great one liners.

Her response was…

Whe Calhoun is surveying the damage caused by the psy-bug, she says, ā€œHell and Armageddon just had a baby, and it is ugly!ā€

I cheered as that truly was one of my favorite lines from the film!!!

She also spoke with us about how she truly enjoyed being able to come in a few hours a day to record and how she loved recording with other actors as well.

John’s an improvisational machine.Ā  I think he would say it how it was written maybe once, just to satisfy the powers that be; and then he would do it his own way, always.Ā  He always dug deeper to find a way to say it that was more appropriate to him and just sometimes shake it up just to shake it up.

Next up was Sarah Silverman, voice of Vanellope von Schweetz who couldn’t believe she was in a Disney movie. She summed it up by saying they just took out all the F-bombs out of all her recordings to make it Disney friendly.Ā  She also confessed she was a huge baby person who was working on her own kids app!

Spoiler Alert! When asked if she ever thought that she would ever become a Disney princess, with an action figure in her lifetime she replied…

No, I didnā€™t.Ā  But Iā€™ve also learned not to have any expectations, you know.Ā  I remember my therapist saying – itā€™s such a Jewish beginning of a sentence, he, you know, I was stressing about, ā€œWell, and what if I neverā€¦ and what if?ā€Ā  And he goes, ā€œHave you ever predicted anything in your life?ā€Ā  And Iā€™m like, ā€œNo.ā€Ā  ā€œOh, and have you ever predicted anything in your life?ā€Ā  ā€œNo.ā€Ā  So we donā€™t know whatā€™s coming.

I asked Clark Spencer, Producer & Phil Johnston, the Writer if there were other games and worlds and characters that didn’t make it into the movie they revealed a Sims/Grand theft Auto type game world that they made up that didn’t make it into the movie.

I had a big question for Rich Moore, the Director of Wreck it Ralph, why wasn’t Sonic the Hedgehog part bigger in the movie!

He responded by saying to stay tuned for the sequel, if there hopefully is one! I PRAY there is one cause I LOVED this movie!

He also shared why some beloved video game characters were not in the film, like those not to be named famous pluming brothers. They simply couldn’t afford them! Damn you Nintendo!

He was also asked about Tron!

Tron?Ā  Yeah, well, Tron, you know, thatā€™s a big character.Ā  And we looked for a way to use Tron.Ā  You know, we didnā€™t want to just do, like cheap kind of walk-ons, you know.Ā  We wanted all of cameos to kind of mean something, or be appropriate, you know, to the scenes.Ā  So it was difficult to kind of, with some characters, Tron being one of them, as the director, to have to make that decision, you know.Ā  It would be great to have them in here but we have not found, you know, the perfect way to use them.Ā  So if weā€™re lucky enough to, you know, if the audience, if the world likes this, you know, movie the way we do, the filmmakers do, and weā€™re lucky enough to do, you know, a sequel,Ā  then I would like to be able to have those other characters, like in my back pocket, to be able to kind of find, you know, the perfect use for them.

The short beautiful animated film PAPERMAN plays before Wreck it Ralph in the theater and Director John Kahrs did an amazing job with this film. I can’t tell you how much I love the music in this film. I would buy the soundtrack if there was one!

He spoke about the process of developing this new style of animation in which they essentially paint over 3D animation with traditional animation drawings! It truly makes this film extraordinary!

It was a fabulous day spent learning so much about this amazing film! And we ended it with our own real candy land Sugar Rush aka a table filled with the most delicious candy and baked treats ever!

I don’t even want to talk about how much I ate on that table!

I can’t tell you how much I loved this film as well. Wait yes I can! Stay Tuned for my review of the film!

I lovedddddd Wreck it Ralph and you should run not walk to the theater to see it! I’m even going to see it again with my family this Sunday that’s how much I loved it! It’s a geek and gamer mom’s dream Disney movie!
