I solely received travel accommodations and the opportunity to attend this event from Disney. All opinions are my own.

Hey All!

At the premiere to Thor: The Dark World I not only had the amazing opportunity to see the film dressed up in my best Asgardian dress, but I also got to chat with some of the stars of the film.

Zachary Levi was kind enough to take some time before the premiere to chat with us on taking over the role of Fandral from Once Upon A Time Star Josh Dallas. He also chatted about his previous role as Flint in Tangled.

I immediately had to ask if he was nervous about taking this role and being apart of this huge franchise?

“I was nervous about coming in and having any ill-will. I was worried if there was going to be any ill-will from any of the rest of the cast, knowing that Josh had played it in the first film. Some of the cast knew me. I’ve known Jamie for a while, because I was originally going to be Fandral and then Chuck got in the way and I wasn’t able to do it. And then Josh was able to play the role and did a fantastic job. But not everybody knew that. I didn’t want to feel like the guy who’s coming in and like taking somebody else’s job away. But his role on Once Upon a Time conflicted, it was very like, so that happened to me and that happened to him and came back around. That was the only thing I was kind of nervous about. Being apart of the Marvel Universe is nothing to be nervous about. I think you should just celebrate that. Like you get to be apart of this incredible comic book lineage and family and universe that they’ve built, which is incredible, you know. One of the first days on set Tom gave me a big hug and said, welcome, glad you were finally able to come and do this. I felt that love from everybody.”

Did you bring a little bit of Flynn Riders charm to your role?

“I guess you bring a little bit of yourself to every role you do. He’s this a charming character.  He’s trust worthy, He is loving, menacing, strong, weak, and he is nerdy. I mean, I feel like I’ve played my share of nerdy characters and that’s an easy dial for me. But Flynn Rider was a dream come true. I mean, I grew up doing nothing but watching Disney cartoons and movies, and particularly musicals, and loving all of them, and dreaming about getting to do just that. So when I first auditioned for Flynn Rider, he was English, he had a British accent. They were still kind of deciding is he going to have a British accent or not or whatever. The original Flynn Rider and Fandral the Dashing are much more similar than people realize. And Flynn ended up becoming much more my own kind of intonation voice. And Fandral is very much more British. Well he’s Asgardean, but they all speak with British accents. So I don’t know. So Bris-Gardian, I don’t know what that would be.”

Do you have to do any extra training to get you more in shape for this role?

“No, what’s interesting is that I was on like a really strict workout regimen until I got to London. Then I tried on my wardrobe for the first time and I realized nobody will ever be able to tell whether I’m ripped or not. I thought they would! I thought we’re doing a superhero movie, I’m going to be like really in shape, But I am covered, I’m literally in this big old collar, you’ll see. I got a big old collar and you don’t see any skin other than my face. I’m even wearing gloves. You don’t even see my finger. Once I learned my fight choreography I realized that I was more than capable of doing that in my physical state. So then my training just became drinking beers and eating chips, thank you Elmer Fudd.”

What was the most challenging aspect of taking on this role?

“I think probably just deciding to step into the shoes that somebody else has already started. I’m very much about respect and respecting people in my world and in my vocation. Ultimately fate had it that Josh played that role and I didn’t. I wanted to do right by him. I wanted to do right by Marvel, I wanted to do right by the cast, and do my own take on it. I didn’t want to emulate what he did. But I also wanted to do him right through that process. He’s an incredibly sweet guy. We got to talk right before I shipped off to London, actually I saw him at Comicon and he was incredibly kind, he and Jennifer. Ah, we all caught up and laughed about it.”

Zach was such a fun person to chat with and he does a great job in the film. He was kind enough to take a photo with us at the end of the interviews. What a prince charming!
