Hey All!
You all know I’m very crafty and love to make home made gifts instead of buying gifts. I find them more personal and thoughtful. Many of you have been wondering what I made for my own Mother for Mother’s Day. Well today I decided to share what I made for my mom and you can make it too! It’s something that you can actually customize to your liking and use all year round. I made created a DIY Clay Jewelry Dish and Ring Holder and a Clay Heart Necklace with a leather rope chain. These are some great jewelry keepsakes your special mom will love. You can also just make these for yourself as they do come in handy at organizing jewelry. Please keep in mind that these are crafts and they don’t have to be perfect. This was my first time working with Clay so it didn’t come out as perfect as I wanted but I know my Mom loved them anyway.
To Make These You’ll Need:
- Baking Clay In An Assortment of Colors. I used White, Pink, and Red.
- Gold Paint.
- Clear Glaze to give the dish that shine finish if you’d like. This is optional.
- Leather Roap or a Gold Chain.
- Plastic Knife.
- Brushes.
- Rolling pin
- Round 4-5 inch Cookie Cutter
- Letter Stamps
I started with the necklace. First you roll out your Red clay or which ever color you chose. I molded it with my hands into a semi heart shape.
I used my plastic knife to cut it into a more heart shape.
I then used my letter stamps to press in the word MOM into my heart.
You lastly take a pencil or the pointy edge of your plastic knife and make a hole at the top of the heart large enough so your chain or rope can fit through it.
You then bake according to the directions of your baking clay (which is about 15-20 minutes for mine) and then let cool for 10-15 minutes. You pull your rope or chain through and boom you have yourself a cute Clay Heart Necklace for mom to wear and cherish.
Since I had all this clay I figured I would make some jewelry and ring holder dishes so my Mom can keep her jewelry organized. I started out by rolling out the words MOM from the red clay.
I rolled the pink clay over it and flatted them out with my rolling pin. I then cut out the circle with a cookie cutter. I did the same for the jewelry dish except I did the same heart I made for the necklace and rolled pink clay over it to make a heart jewelry dish.
For the ring holder I rolled a little piece of clay and placed it up right in the center of the “O” of MOM on the dish. You can place these in an oven safe dish to give them more of a round bowl feel or you can just lay them on a baking dish and bake according to the directions of your baking clay.
Once they’re done you can paint the rim gold for an added touch.
And that’s how you make two amazing Jewelry Keepsakes for Mom!
I think they’re very cute and simple to make. You could also make these into different shapes like a donut. I’m going to master that shape soon!
