Did you know May is Thankorama Month? I’m giving thanks and celebrating with the help of Mo Willems. He’s a fabulous number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator. His new book which released this month by Disney Publishing is called THE THANK YOU BOOK. It’s such a fun book to show kids and adults alike the power of saying thank you and practicing giving thanks. It’s the perfect book to celebrate #Thankorama with! If you haven’t read the book or heard of Mo Willems, The book follows Gerald and Piggie, who are best friends. Piggie wants to thank EVERYONE. But Gerald is worried Piggie will forget someone . . . someone important. It’s such a cute story. I was excited when I got a “Mo Mail” package in the mail to inspire me to celebrate Thankorama Month in my own way. I of course decided to make a DIY to celebrate and I’m sharing it with you to say thanks to my fabulous readers. You’re going to love these DIY Gerald The Elephant Thank You Cards & Pig Bookmarks!
Here is what you’ll need to make these fun thank you cards and bookmarks:
- White, Gray, Black, and Pink Cardstock.
- Craft Cutting Machine (I used my Cricut)
- The Pig Bookmark template found HERE.
- School Glue
- Colored Pencils
- Our Free Printable Gerald The Elephant Template You Can DOWNLOAD HERE!
First you upload the above image to your craft cutting machine or you print it out and use it as a template to cut out all your pieces to make your Gerald the elephant thank you cards. You cut out his head and trunk out of the gray cardstock.
You then cut out his round classes pieces out of the black and white cardstock. You also use the black to cut out his mouth.
Once you have all your pieces cut, you then take your black colored pencil and draw on his little eyes.
You then take your ruler and black colored pencil and draw lines onto the back of the card. This is where you’ll write your thank you message.
You write your message and then proceed to flip the card over and glue on his eyes, glasses, trunk, and mouth.
You lastly take your black color pencil and draw on his eyebrows and glasses lines.
That’s it you’re done with the Gerald the elephant thank you cards! How cute is he?!! I think he looks pretty close to his actual drawing don’t you think?
You can pair this thank you card with a Piggie inspired bookmark. Use this Pig Bookmark template found HERE and your Cricut cutting machine to cut out these super cute pig bookmarks.
It’s the perfect little DIY pairing to say thank you with during Thankorama month!
The Thank You Book is the perfect book to snuggle up and read with the family. You can enjoy a tasty cookie with it too!
Don’t forget to make yourself a little piggie bookmark to hold your place in the book when you do sit down to read it.
