5 Minute DIY Hocus Pocus Mommy & Me Costume!

Hey All!

If you’re like me this year, this Halloween has become a better late than never situation. Sorry folks! With being pregnant and the baby coming via c-section this one woman show just didn’t have the time or energy to work on a million costumes this year. I only got a chance to work on a few SUPER QUICK and easy costumes and I’m finally getting a chance to share them today. I wanted to make some costumes that you can make as a last minute costume idea and will take you 5 minutes to make. I’ll be sharing one today, one tomorrow, and one the day before Halloween. Let’s kick it off with this 5 Minute DIY Hocus Pocus Mommy & Me Costume! Also don’t mind the photos as well. We didn’t have time to go out and pose in front of some cute wall. We took these at home super fast since I just wanted to share asap. Keeping it real folks! Ain’t nobody got time for modeling with a new born baby.

Since we’re all about Hocus Pocus this year I had to make a Book and Thackery Binx costume. Thackery is the black cat who guards the book in the movie Hocus Pocus.

I thought it would be such a fun costume to make as a mommy and me costume. Here is how to make it.

  • 1 piece of cardboard
  • 1 black sharpie
  • Brown and Silver Stick-on Vinyl
  • Printable White Vinyl
  • Glue Gun
  • Brown Elastic
  • Brown Dress
  • Round Velcro Dots
  • Black Felt
  • Black and Gray Craft Foam
  • Black Baby Onesie and Baby Black Hat
  • This FREE PRINTABLE!

To make the book you just cut a larger piece of cardboard or a large cardboard box into a flat piece and round out the edges with a scissors.

Print out the eyes and snake pieces onto your printable vinyl and cut them out. Cut out strips from the brown vinyl and place it on the left side of the cardboard to make it like the seam of the book. Cut out a snake like long piece to go over the brown vinyl.

Stick on the eye and snack pieces on the right side of the cardboard box. Use the black sharpie to draw the stitch lines of the book onto the cardboard in between the vinyl pieces. Glue a brown piece of elastic to the back of the cardboard, so it can hang off your neck and that’s it. You’re done with the book.

For the baby cat costume you just cut out some ear shapes from the black craft foam and cut out a smaller triangle like shape from the gray craft foam to be the inside of the cat ear. Glue the pieces together to make the cat ears. Glue the full cat ears to the black baby hat on each side. Cut a tail from the black craft felt and stick it onto the onesie with some stick on velcro. The velcro will come off after Halloween so you can keep using the onesie.

That’s it! Super simple and should take you five minutes to make each if not both. I made these with stuff I already had in the house. Hopefully you’re a crafty person and have this around the house as well!

I hope you love this cute last minute Halloween costume idea as much as I do!
