Hey all!
As the holiday breaks from school begin, I wanted to do something to keep my son in a routine and to also get him to be more independent. Check out this cute DIY Kids Chore Chart I made! I’m so happy with how it came out! It’s pretty easy to make and I even made the star and heart magnets! I made this with my Surebonder® Glue Guns and Glue Sticks. Yes folks! I made those magnets with hot glue! You know I love my Surebonder® Glue Guns and Glue Sticks! They are a staple in my crafts and DIY projects and I’m thrilled to partner with them to make this easy chore chart.
What I love most about this Chore Chart, is that it can be customized to your child. You can put any chores or activities your feel your child needs to work on and add them to the Chore Chart.
It’s fun, it’s easy to follow, and my son is already in love with it!
It’s great for keeping kids in a routine and teaching them responsibilities. It’s made my son a big helper around the house!
The amazing folks Surebonder® we’re kind enough to send me a variety of their incredible products to make this DIY with. I love Surebonder® not only because they make the best glue guns and glue sticks around, they are also a family owned business.
They’ve been around since 1968 and are manufactured right in the USA! I’m all about supporting products made in the USA!
For this project we’ll be using their The Crafting and DIY Cordless/Corded Mini Size Specialty Detail Tip Glue Gun.
We’ll also be using their green heat resistant mat.
We’ll also be using the Glitter Stiks and their Clear Stiks, which come in sizes for mini and full-size glue guns. They are my go-to for all my crafts and I love that they come in long sticks and rolls, so you don’t have to constantly change glue sticks as your making your DIY’s and crafts.
Below is the full list of everything you’ll need to make this DIY Kids Chore Chart:
- And all the amazing products from Surebonder®that I mentioned above.
- Silicone Molds in Star and Heart Shapes.
- Adhesive Vinyl (I used black, but you can use any color.)
- 5 inch wooden letters and stars. ( You can find a package that includes both.)
- 1 inch magnets
- Printable Magnet Paper
- 18 inch Magnetic Dry Erase Board.
- Silicone Finger Protectors.
- Red and Yellow Acrylic Paint.
- Paint Brushes.
- Clear Nail Polish.
First you’ll start out painting your letters red and your stars yellow. While the letters dry, you’ll move on to making your magnets.
To make the star and heart magnets, you’ll take your glitter glue sticks and place them in your glue gun. You’ll then squeeze the hot glue into the star and heart shaped silicone molds.
Once your fill a star or heart in the mold, you’ll then place a magnet onto the still hot and soft glue. Use your finger protectors to make sure you don’t get burned with hot glue as you’re making these!
Make sure to press the magnets into the hot glue and secure them.
Let the molds completely cool and harden. Once they are done they will look a little dull because of the molds.
Use clear nail polish to give the magnets a shimmer and shine. One coat will work!
Let the magnets dry and go back to your letters. The letters should be dry by this time.
Glue your stars and letters to the top of your dry erase board.
Then cut black lines from your black vinyl to make the graph boxes for the chore chart.
Cut the lines to fit your dry erase board. Mine was about 11 inches across and 15 inches in length. Each chore box was about 2×2 inches in size, the days of the week were about an inch in size, and the chore boxes were about 1.5 inches long.
I then used my computer to make some printable magnets for the days of the week and the various chores I wanted him to do.
I used an editing software and clip art on my computer to make my chore and week magnets, but you can easily type some out on your computer and add some stickers if you’re not tech savvy. Or you can use an online editor to make them. I literally just typed the letters of the week in big letters and put each day underneath.
You can print them at home on magnet printer paper if you have a printer or take it to a print store to print.
You don’t even have to make the chore or week magnets. You can just write it out with dry erase marker as well! Just make the board and your stars and hearts and you’ll be set! I made the magnets because I’m extra! LOL.
I cut the magnets out and put them onto the dry erase board. The days of the week on top with a magnet that says “Chores of the Week”.
What I love the most about this is that I can switch up the magnets each week, so he’s never doing the same set of chores each week. This helps keep him from getting board.
He can put a star for each chore he finishes in a day. He can put a heart if he liked doing that particular chore.
When he does all his chores in a day he gets something fun or he gets to do something fun! For example he gets to watch some TV.
He looks forward to finishing all his chores thanks to this chore chart! We keep it hanging on his bedroom door!
Highly recommend finding a dry erase board with a handle! You can hang it and your kid can even carry it around with the handle as they do their chores.
Again, I love how this turned out! You can check out our reel video showing the step by step on how to make this below:
I hope you and your kids love this as much as I do!
