Hey All!
As many of you know I live in Sunny California, in Los Angeles to be exact, and I love my city. I’m originally from New York, NY and we moved to Los Angeles some time ago. Los Angeles is a very different city from New York, but I have to say I love the fact that it’s so different. I love that I can drive my family from the warm sunshine of the beaches at Santa Monica to…
The snow covered mountains of Big Bear where we can build a snow man all in the same day.
California is one place you can actually do this. There is so much to do in LA, and I love it because you can still do so many out door activities here as well as there are so many family activities here. You can go to them parks like Disneyland or Universal Studios (which are a 10 minute to 30 minute drive for me) or you can go take a hike at one of the many nature trails located right smack in the heart of LA. You can always find something to do with your whole family here in LA. I love this city for that fact. My teen and I love to sometimes go to the Getty Museum and we like to look out in the distance and we like to pull out some color pencils and draw the sky line of the San Fernando Valley. It’s filled with mountains and buildings so it looks very unique. There really is so much I love about this city that I can go on and on. But I wanted to share with you about a special contest that lets your child share their love of your city as well!
Inspired by this city love, uDraw Your City has launched a nationwide art contest, in which young artists ages 6 to 17 years old have the opportunity to share what they love most about their city through art. Contestants can use a uDraw GameTablet to illustrate what they love most about their city – though entries may also be created in traditional print formats using any artistic medium.
If my teen enters he would love to submit one of his many comic style drawings of the city. That’s his medium of choice he draws with colored pencils and markers various comics with the city of LA as his back drop.
THQ and uDraw would like to invite your kids to embrace their artistic inspiration and to share “what your city, your town, or your community means to you.” Maybe it’s the silhouette of your favorite building, a drawing of your friends at the park, or a stencil of your favorite local athlete.
The submission period runs through October 31, and the grand prize winner will receive a package worth more than $15,000, including a uDraw, and a $10,000 cash prize that the winner can choose to apply toward a college scholarship. Additionally, THQ will donate $10,000 to the winner’s school of choice to help support its art program. Entries are judged on artistic merit (based on age group), creativity, and adherence to the overall city theme.
I think this is such a great way to share your love of your city with your children and a great opportunity for your children to get a great scholarship for school by doing something they love to do already for the city they love.
So let’s share and be creative together! How much do you love your city?
***Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of THQ and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.***
