Hey All!
I recently had the privilege and honor to be invited back to the King’s Hawaiian Bakery to attend an amazing event for their KING’S HAWAIIAN Project Mahalo program. I felt honored to be there as they announced that Meals On Wheels Association of America is the recipient of the $25,000 donation from KING’S HAWAIIAN Project Mahalo, a philanthropic campaign that recognized four national charitable organizations that represent the Hawaiian Way of sharing, generosity and giving back without expecting anything in return.
King’s Hawaiian launched Project Mahalo—mahalo means “thank you” in Hawaiian—to thank Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Family Caregiver Alliance, Meals On Wheels and One Warm Coat for their charitable work, and to inspire people like you to get involved in their own communities. Fans of KING’S HAWAIIAN products determined which of these four participating organizations best embodied the Hawaiian Way by casting their votes online. As the top vote-getter, Meals on Wheels Association of America received a contribution of $25,000 from King’s Hawaiian.
In keeping with the Hawaiian Way of generosity and sharing, King’s Hawaiian also made donations of $10,000 each to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Family Caregiver Alliance and One Warm Coat.
About the Organizations:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America provides careful mentor matching and long-term support to help kids facing adversity achieve success.
Family Caregiver Alliance supports and strengthens the work of families nationwide caring for loved ones with chronic disabling health conditions.
Meals On Wheels Association of America supports local Meals On Wheels programs that deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors.
One Warm Coat shares the warmth by working to provide a warm coat, free of charge, to anyone in need.
King’s Hawaiian CEO Mark Taira and his daughter Courtney Taira presented these amazing awards on the traditional Hawaiian holiday of Lei Day. Courtney is the most adorable and sweetest women you will ever meet.
“Our goal with Project Mahalo was to thank these wonderful organizations and to raise awareness about the generous work they do every day,” said Mark Taira during remarks at the Lei Day event. “We are extremely grateful to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Family Caregiver Alliance, Meals On Wheels and One Warm Coat for embodying the spirit of giving generously to others and honoring family and community. They truly exemplify the Hawaiian Way.”
Every time I visit the Kings Hawaiian factory I always feel as if I am going home to visit family. The Taira family truly are the embodiment of the spirit of generosity and kindness. This makes Kings Hawaiian one of my favorite brands. Not only do they make amazing breads, they truly care and value their costumers. This is the only company where you can call customer service and be able to speak to one of the family members and owners of the company.
The Hawaiian Way—a uniquely Hawaiian approach to hospitality based on graciousness, generosity, and a commitment to making everyone feel a part of the KING’S HAWAIIAN ohana, they of course had an amazing lunch catered by their Kings Hawaiian restaurants set up for us to eat and enjoy. Here I am below sitting with the CEO and the fabulous team of the Boys and Girls Club.
We also took a tour of the amazing bakery.
Needless to say the warm rolls coming out of the oven are the most amazing thing you will ever taste.
Kings Hawaiian was founded more than 60 years ago in Hilo, Hawaii, by Robert R. Taira. It is still a family-owned business that for three generations has been dedicated to making irresistible, original recipe Hawaiian foods made with Aloha Spirit.
I’m honored to feel like I am part of the Kings Hawaiian Ohana every time I visit this amazing family owned company. I’m not only a huge lover of the bread and company, but I adore the family unit that helps brings these amazing products to so many families.
Kings Hawaiian makes the #1 branded dinner roll in the United States, and operates baking facilities in Torrance, California and Oakwood, Georgia.
