Celebrating The New Pigeon Book With A DIY Pigeon Party!

Hey All!

I’m thrilled to be partnering with Disney Book Group once again to celebrate the release of the brand new Pigeon book, The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! We’re so excited for this book that we decided to throw a Pigeon party to celebrate. Every good book deserves a celebration, am I right?

If you’re not familiar with these books, they are a great book series by my favorite author Mo Willems! The Pigeon series of books have covered everything from Pigeon wanting a puppy to Pigeon needing (and trying to evade) a bath.

All the books have perfect topics for kids to learn from and enjoy. This latest book just came out in Stores July 2nd and it’s recommended for ages 3-5.

Here is a little about the book:

The Pigeon is about to get SCHOOLED. Do YOU think he should go?

Why does the Pigeon have to go to school? He already knows everything! And what if he doesn’t like it? What if the teacher doesn’t like him? What if he learns TOO MUCH!?! Ask not for whom the school bell rings; it rings for the Pigeon!

It’s beautifully illustrated and such a great way to address children’s fears of going to school for the first time.

For our Pigeon celebration we had everything from Pigeon plates…

Napkins…

Party hats…

Pigeon cups with striped straws…

Pigeon favor boxes (that have all our favorite Mo Willems Characters on them)…

A Pigeon candle…

Party streamers (Which acted as a photo backdrop) and plush Pigeon Berkshire blankets (to set up for story time corner at our party)!

We had quite the party set up for our Pigeon Party!

In addition to all that I decided to make a giant Pigeon Cookie Cake and some Pigeon themed bookmark party favors to use for the new book.

I made the cake by using regular store bought sugar cookie mix, white whipped frosting and black icing.

I colored some of the frosting a light blue and yellow color. I baked two large round cookies and two small triangle shaped cookies for the beak. I layered the large round cookies with the blue frosting.

I layered the triangle cookies with yellow frosting.

On the top layer I used the frosting and icing to create the Pigeon’s big eye and face.

That’s all I did to make this fun Pigeon Cookie Cake. It’s super easy to make!

For the party favor bookmarks, I simply printed this FREE PRINTABLE onto some shrinky dink paper.

I cut them out and baked them. I then glued the round discs to a paper clip with hot glue and that’s it.

I placed a few of each inside our favor boxes with some confetti. It’s a super easy and perfectly themed favor for a book party.

We had a blast celebrating Pigeon with our family and friends.

It was nice to celebrate and also have some fun reading time with my boy in our reading corner. We loved the book and I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to celebrate this amazing book with a fun Pigeon party!

I’m sure you’ll love this book just as much as we do! And if you throw your own Pigeon themed parties be sure to share some photos and tag me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook!

Thanks so much to Disney Book Group for this fun opportunity to celebrate!

I work with kids who adore the Pigeon so this birthday party theme would be a hit with lots of kids. The color scheme is fantastic too.

    Hi Vanessa,
I am throwing my 4 year old a pigeon themed party. Can you share who you contact to get the plates, cake topper and cups? Most of the Mo Willems is DIY which I am doing but just hoping I can buy some of the merch somewhere. Thank you!
