Hey All!
I recently had the opportunity to see Godzilla! This version of the city demolishing monster we love is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).
Edwards directs from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, story by David Callaham, based on the character “Godzilla” owned and created by TOHO CO., LTD. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Patricia Whitcher and Alex Garcia are serving as executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes Oscar®-nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey (“Anna Karenina,” “Atonement”); production designer Owen Paterson (“The Matrix” trilogy); editor Bob Ducsay (“Looper”); Oscar®-nominated costume designer Sharen Davis (“Dreamgirls,” “Ray,” “Django Unchained”); and Oscar®-winning visual effects supervisor Jim Rygiel (the “Lord of the Rings” films). The score is being created by Oscar®-nominated composer Alexandre Desplat (“Argo,” “The King’s Speech”).
The best thing about this movie is Godzilla! He is a bad ass in this movie pardon my french. He kicks major butt. I will admit it does take some time to actually get to the scenes with Godzilla, but when he is on the screen he really delivers. The fight scenes are fantastic! When Godzilla shoots his radioactive flames at the monster who I believe is a version of Mothra, myself and people in the screening cheered. And let’s not forget when his big foot stomps down into the screen for the first time and Godzilla roars it was amazing.
If Godzilla was on the screen a bit earlier and more I feel the film would have been perfect. I would have enjoyed less of the human characters and more Godzilla, but that’s just my preference. I’m not going to complain about this film as it’s the best Godzilla movie to come out in some time from an American studio. I try to not think about that last Godzilla movie. That was NOT Godzilla! This new film really captures the look and feel of Godzilla.
It was very entertaining and it’s worth every penny to see Godzilla kicking butt on the big screen again.
Check out this trailer below for a taste of the film if you haven’t seen it already.
GODZILLA is in theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D now!

I’m glad that you felt this film did the famous Godzilla justice. I can imagine how more Godzilla and less people would have made it a tad bit better though.
I went to go see this last weekend and I really didn’t care for the movie. I really, really wanted to like it, but I didn’t. It felt rushed and the movie didn’t really focus on the main character, Godzilla. There were a few moments here and there, and the acting was okay, but I just thought it was too slow. It’s not bad, but I wish I would’ve waiting until it came out on DVD. But, keep in mind that I’m not really into these type of movies, I just went because the kids wanted to see it lol.
I heard a similar review recently. I think I’ll pass. 🙂
I’ve heard mixed reviews on this one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. Still haven’t decided whether we’ll go see it in the theaters or wait until it’s On Demand. So many good movies coming out in the next couple of weeks makes it tough to decide.
We saw it last weekend and loved it! I agree, Godzilla needed more screen time, but all in all a good movie. As for the last movie with Matthew Broderick – it was pitiful. :/
My youngest son goes to the movies all the time and this is on his list of movies too see.
I have to admit, when I first heard they were making another Godzilla I was not too thrilled, but the more I hear about it the more I want to see it.
I’m finally going tonight, I can’t wait to see it!
Wish my mom was still around so I could go see it with her. She loved Godzilla movies
My 6yr old son has really been wanting to see his movie with daddy, but I am nervous Godzilla on the big screen may be a bit much for him. I am glad you enjoyed it and that it was a true action film!
