Hey All!
You all know how much I love Empanadas (Or as we Puerto Ricans and Cubans like to call them Pastelillos) right? I made an easier and healthier recipe for these that was baked as opposed to fried that you can find HERE if you don’t remember. Well I decided to take that recipe to a whole new level for Valentine’s Day with these Heart Shaped Empanadas (Pastelillos)! How amazing are they! Too darn cute! You simply follow the same recipe, but I’ll share it below.
I made mine with meat of course.
- 1 Pound of Ground Beef
- 1 Box of Pepperidge farms puff pastry sheets
- 2 eggs
- 1 Pinch of Salt
- 1 tsp of Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp of oregano
- 1 tsp pepper
- 20 Olives diced
- 1 package of Sazon
- 1 Heart shaped cookie cutter
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- First cook your ground beef seasoning it with the salt, garlic powder, oregano, pepper, and Sazon packet.
- Mix in your olives into the ground beef as it's cooking.
- Do not cook meat completely as it will cook completely when it's baking.
- Roll out your pepperidge farms puff pastry sheets. Let them thaw for about 15 minutes. Cut them into three slices. Make sure they aren't still frozen as you cut.
- Stretch out the dough sides of your strips so they are wide enough for your cookie cutter.
- Cut Out Your Heart Shapes from the dough.
- Make sure to cut even amounts so you have a top and a bottom.
- Place chop meat on the bottom half of the dough.
- Place a dough heart on top of the cooked ground beef. I make sure each amount of meat I pour onto the dough hearts has olives with it.
- Seal the edges of the heart empanadas with a fork.
- Beat your 2 eggs and glaze each heart with the egg.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until dough has risen and the hearts are golden brown.
- Serve and Enjoy for Valentine's Day!
Place the ground beef on one side and the heart dough on top.
Seal the edges with a fork. Make sure to flip it over so you seal both sides well.
Bake and serve!!!
These are definitely awesome for Valentine’s Day dinners.
Empanadas are a great starter for any meal.
Serve on some cute Valentine’s Day themed plates before your Valentine’s Day dinners, if you’re celebrating at home with your special someone.
I hope you enjoy these for Valentine’s Day as much as we will! They are festive and very easy to make. Let’s not forget how amazing they taste.
If you’re not a meat eater you can make these with Guava paste inside instead for a sweet treat and leave off the glaze if you also don’t eat eggs. You can maybe use honey instead. Yum!
