Hey All!
I recently had the opportunity to get an amazing book series sent to me for the kids called Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot! It’s a creative comic like book from Dav Pilkey (creator of Captain Underpants) and acclaimed artist Dan Santat. It’s an out-of-this-world friendship adventure with brand-new full-color illustrations and mini-comics throughout!
Ricky Ricotta is a little mouse with BIG problems! Every day he is picked on by the neighborhood bullies. He lives in Squeakyville with his mother and father, and being an only mouse, he is often lonely. That is until SOMETHING BIG HAPPENS! A giant flying robot enters Ricky’s life and an unlikely friendship is born! Together, Ricky and his Robot must save the planet from a galaxy bursting with bad guys!
Here is a little about each book:
BOOK ONE: RICKY RICOTTA’S MIGHTY ROBOT
Little Ricky Ricotta has a problem: the bullies at school pick on him all the time. Until one day, he saves the life of a mighty robot. Together, Ricky and his Robot face the bullies, and save Squeakyville from a giant evil lizard monster. That’s what friends are for!
BOOK TWO: RICKY RICOTTA’S MIGHTY ROBOT VS MUTANT MOSQUITOS FROM MERCURY
Mr. Mosquito hates Mercury. The days are so hot, they melt his flip-flops, and the nights are so cold, his toothpaste freezes solid! He’s decided to take over Earth instead. Ricky and his Robot must stop his army of massive Mutant Mosquitoes!
BOOK THREE: RICKY RICOTTA’S MIGHTY ROBOT VS VOODOO VULTURES FROM VENUS
Victor Von Vulture hates Venus. His toasted cheese sandwiches are always way too gooey, and ice cream melts in a second! So he and his army of Voodoo Vultures try to cast a spell on the Earth. It’s up to Ricky and his Robot to stop them!
BOOK FOUR: RICKY RICOTTA’S MIGHTY ROBOT VS THE MECHA-MONKEYS FROM MARS
Little Ricky Ricotta has a problem: the bullies at school pick on him all the time. Until one day, he saves the life of a mighty robot. Together, Ricky and his Robot face the bullies, and save Squeakyville from a giant evil lizard monster. That’s what friends are for!
They were all so much fun for the kids to read that I decided to make a little Mighty Robot of our own. Well a Mighty Robot in Mini Piñata form of course.
To make this adorable Mini Piñata you’ll need the following:
- Scissors
- Fringing Scrissors (I got the Martha Stewart Kind)
- Gray AND Green Cardstock
- Regular School Glue
- Small Oval box
- Red and White Crepe Paper
- String
- Confetti
- Packing Tape
- White Chalk pen
- Glue Dots
To Make:
First you start out by punching a whole in the box at the top. This is where you’ll pull your string from to hang your Piñata. You then pull the string through the hole and tie the string into a tight knot. You then fill the box with some candy and confetti.
You then seal up the box with it’s lid and tape it shut with the packing tape.
You then proceed to cut at least 8 long strips of the white crepe paper about one and half inches wide. You then fringe each stripe with your fringing scissors.
Once you are done fringing, You can then begin to glue each strip onto the oval box with your glue. You then take your regular scissors and begin trimming off the sides and shaping the robot face.
You then cut out a red strip of crepe paper about half an inch wide and cut out ovals for the ears and a triangle and strips for the back of the eyes.
You then glue on each strip and shape with the regular glue. You glue the ears on with some glue dots.
Lastly you draw the two white eyes onto the gray strip where the eyes would be.
That’s it you’re done! You have a fun Mighty Robot Mini Piñata to enjoy with the book.
I think he came out pretty good don’t you think?
I then made some planet confetti on my craft cutting machine to mix in with my confetti as he’s gotta have some space confetti to match him right?

This series sounds amazing. My boys would enjoy these series a lot. Thank you so much for giving this idea for a pinata too. Since my oldest son is going to have a birthday next month this is a good idea to have on hand.
My son loves these books. What a cute idea for a pinata!
What an adorable pinata, they are always so much fun. I wasn’t aware a grilled cheese could be too gooey though.
That’s cute. I remember the days of making pinatas at home and a lot of mess was involved. I like how you use the box for the base. Much better than a balloon that had to be covered in newspaper.
It must have been so much fun making this. How adorable!
This is so cute, one day I’m going to try it.
That pinata is really cute. I’ll have to make one with the grandkids when they visit.
Ricky Ricotta fans will go nuts over this! I so love how it turned out, Vanessa!
Man you did such a good job. I totally never thought to create my own pinata, a lot more affordable for sure!! Turned out super cute!
Its been so long since I’ve made a Pinata, my daughter would probably love the idea!
Oh my gosh, that is so cute, I love it!
My kids love the Ricky Ricotta books. I don’t blame them! Dav Pilkey is one of the best children’s authors. They would freak over having a pinata like the Mighty Robot.
