An Interview With The Cast of Dolphin Tale 2!

Hey All!

I recently had the amazing opportunity to interview 3 of the stars of the film Dolphin Tale 2 Harry Connick Jr., Nathan Gamble, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. All three stars were in the first film and all the original cast returned for the film. This film follows Hope the dolphin’s rescue and the process of bringing Hope and Winter the dolphin together. I had read about the fact that Hope was actually rescued during the wrap party for the original film. I was wondering if since they witnessed this amazing event, did they think this would make a good sequel to the first film.

Sadly Nathan Gamble, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff confessed that they missed the event as they took off from the wrap party early as they were younger then and it was a little to late for them, but Harry Connick Jr. remembered the day in detail.  He joked about how he immediately thought this is going to be a sequel and wanted to give his production notes and start working on it since he has such an amazing time filming the first movie.

Filming Dolphin Tale 2 felt like a family reunion for the cast and crew as in a rare event for a movie, ALL the cast and original crew who worked on the film all came back. They shot at the same location and it was literally like a home coming for the film.

HARRY CONNICK JR.:

We became so close through out the filming of the first one that the second one was like some kind of family reunion. Although the context was different, I feel like we were able to just jump right in and come together to make this film, which is a great luxury. It doesn’t happen very much.

How was it working with the dolphins?

NATHAN GAMBLE:

Amazing! Working with Winter is so special. Being that Winter is the most famous dolphin out there makes it so special.

COZI ZUEHLSDORFF:

Yes Hope is so playful and fun and so is Winter. It’s always an amazing experience to get in the water with them.

We of course wanted to know how Winter and making these films has inspired them as they inspired so many.

HARRY CONNICK JR.:

There’s something to be said for acceptance and being able to process adversity gracefully. I mean, yes, Winter is a dolphin and obviously doesn’t process things the same way we do, but when you see how every day Winter just goes about her life seemingly happy, it just makes you look at things in a slightly different way. Why can’t we all be so happy?

NATHAN GAMBLE:

Winter has definitely changed my life. Before doing the Dolphin Tale movies, whenever I would see someone in a wheelchair or someone with a physical handicap, I would think of them differently, because I would think that person looks different than I do and feel bad. It’s change my way of thinking, They are just humans with disabilities and they have personalities.  They are just a lot braver than us in their daily lives.

COZI ZUEHLSDORFF:

Winter has given us so much more perspective than teenagers usually get to have. I’m a spokesperson for the aquarium and when we talk to kids, we usually try to encourage that the only difference between someone with a harder life challenge than you is that they are braver than all of us.

The cast was so fabulous to chat with. They even snapped a photo with me. How awesome is that?

Warner Bros. Pictures and Alcon Entertainment’s “Dolphin Tale 2” continues the story of the brave dolphin Winter, whose miraculous rescue and recovery—thanks to a groundbreaking prosthetic tail—made her a symbol of hope and perseverance to people around the world and inspired the 2011 family hit movie “Dolphin Tale.”

The film reunites the entire main cast, led by Harry Connick, Jr., Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”), Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Austin Stowell, and, of course, the remarkable dolphin Winter as herself. Charles Martin Smith, who directed “Dolphin Tale,” wrote the sequel and is again at the helm.

Dolphin Tale 2 is in theaters now!
