Hey All!

When you have insurance you can often think you know everything there is to know about your insurance and you don’t have to worry if an emergency happens because you have insurance. I would always say, “We’re covered!” I quickly learned how wrong I was and what a big mistake I made when we actually had a family emergency. When our teen broke his arm and we had to rush him to the hospital, we thought our insurance would fully cover any incidents of this nature.

We were sadly wrong! When the hospital bills started coming and the bills were reaching the thousands, I seriously thought there must be some mistake as we had insurance. The insurance should be paying this, not us. We made the mistake of not fully understanding the kind of insurance coverage we actually had and we had to pay the price…literally.

We didn’t have a great service like Aflac to help us cover our medical bills and needless to say we were in a lot of debt shortly after that one incident.  I wish we had Aflac at that time, but I know that shortly after I found out about Aflac I knew I had to have it for my family. With Aflac when a policyholder gets sick or hurt, Aflac pays cash benefits fast. Aflac insurance policies give policyholders the opportunity to focus on recovery and not financial stress.

And now there is an amazing tool called the Aflac Real Cost Calculator that shows you the average out-of-pocket expenses associated with a number of injuries and illnesses.

How does the calculator work you ask?

The Real Cost Calculator incorporates data from numerous national public sources to show the average costs of a variety of medical conditions.

For example…Did you know:

  • The average cost to treat a broken leg is more than $10,000.
  • The average annual expense for people diagnosed with diabetes is $11,744.3
  • Some of the newer cancer treatments can cost about $10,000 a month.

It’s insane to think that simply wanting to get your family medical treatment in an emergency can actually make you go bankrupt. Believe it or not, medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy these days. Without fully understanding the real cost of your health care, you could face staggering, unexpected medical costs when an emergency does happen.

This tool can help you get a sense of what you’re in store for in an emergency. It is incredibly easy to use and it’s really helpful to have a free tool like this out there for the public to use to obtain this important information. It makes you want to research how much your insurance really covers and if you will actually will be ready when an emergency does happen.

I definitely think everyone should visit Aflac.com/RealCost to test out the new calculator and also check out how Aflac can help offset the real cost of an illness or injury.

Again it’s a great free tool to use to get helpful information that anyone should know to be prepared for an emergency. If you have families you should definitely check it out!
