Celebrating The 2020 Lunar New Year At Universal Studios Hollywood!

Hey All!

I’m so thrilled to have had the honor to be invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year once again at Universal Studios Hollywood! They have the most amazing Lunar New Year Celebration and the family and I could not wait to go! We went last weekend and had an amazing time. I love to go to Universal since it’s so close to our house and we always have an amazing time there. Since we moved it’s even closer! YAY! The Lunar New Year Celebration takes place within Universal Plaza (the same courtyard area where Grinchmas is held) but you can find some Lunar New Year merchandise and food offerings throughout the Upper Lot of the park. We got to try some of what this celebration has to offer and I wanted to share with you all the fun happenings you can experience during this special celebration. It takes place until February 9th, so head over to Universal Studios Hollywood now to experience it for yourself!

The park is beautifully decorated with traditional red Chinese lanterns and stunning plum blossom Wishing Trees!

The main offerings for the Lunar New Year are found in Universal Plaza. Hello Kitty is found in front of the Hello Kitty Shop located within the Animation Studio Store.

Beloved global pop icon Hello Kitty she steps out in style wearing her signature red bow and specially designed Lunar New Year attire. It’s so adorable and our bubbly baby fell in love with her. She was giving him kisses and making him laugh as you can see in the photos. That’s one thing I love about the characters at Universal. They go out of their way to make your child smile!

Keeping with Universal Studios Hollywood’s Lunar New Year tradition, MEGATRON from the TRANSFORMERS franchise will be speaking Mandarin while interacting with guests at the entry of the Universal Plaza.

The imposing robot leader of the DECEPTICONS will engage with you in real-time conversation reflective of his persona and will be sure to entertain TRANSFORMERS fans visiting the park. MEGATRON is one of the stars of Universal Studios Hollywood’s thrill ride, “Transformers™: The Ride-3D.” Don’t forget to ride it when you’re there! It’s so much fun!

The Minions from the theme park’s popular Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride are also available to snap pics with in New York Street! They are dressed in brightly colored traditional Lunar New Year attire. The world-famous Studio Tour is also available in Mandarin at select times throughout the day. Featuring expertly-trained Mandarin-speaking tour guides, the experience provides insight into the world of movie-making magic as guests enjoy behind-the-scenes access to one of the largest production studios in the world. In-language park maps are also available for guests.

My favorite part of Universal Studio Hollywood’s Lunar New Year Celebration is Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop. You can find some amazing dumplings, ramen and pho dishes! You can check out the complete menu here:

We got the Beef Pho, Two Oogway Egg Rolls, Po’s Dumplings, and the Cherry Cheesecake!

The Beef Pho was my husbands favorite!

I loved the Dumplings, Egg Rolls and Cheesecake!

Just a heads up, the order only comes with one Egg Roll, so you want to definitely order two if you want to try these!

The cherry cheese cake is delicious!

In the same area where you can purchase these delicious noodle dishes, is the return of the popular Mr. Ping meet-and-greet! You can meet Mr. Ping, who interacts with you in real time! He jokes with you and your family and takes his time interacting with each guest. It’s so much fun!

In addition to meeting Mr. Ping, you can find other character meet-and-greets such as Po and Tigress from Kung Fu Panda!

At the various snack and food cards in Universal Plaza you can also find this yummy Year of the Rat Cookie! It’s super cute and tastes amazing too!

Other Activities include:

Wishing Trees: These are located throughout the plaza, where you can place your New Year’s wish on a plum blossom tree!

This was my wish! It’s such a sweet thing to do!

You can learn to draw the Po from Kung Fu Panda at Feng the Palace Artist’s Stand! This takes place at various times throughout the day.

And on select days you can see local Cultural Performances by performers. They do traditional Lion Dances that are spectacular to see.

This is not Lunar New Year related, but I just had to share! You can take photos with the entire Scooby Gang if you’re lucky! I’ve never seen them all together like this taking photos and we got lucky to be right there when they started lining up. Our little one was obsessed with Scooby Doo!

Can you tell he had a blast at Universal? Best time ever!

I absolutely loved my afternoon at the Universal Studios Hollywood Lunar New Year celebration for 2020! Thanks so much again to Universal for having us! Be sure to visit by February 9th to experience the celebration

Guests can continue their Lunar New Year celebration at Universal CityWalk’s Dongpo Kitchen restaurant which features upscale and modern Sichuan cuisine.
