Hey All!

You all know by now how much I love my Disney-Hyperion & Mo Willems books. Well I’m happy to share he’s now presenting a new beginning-reader series of books that was just released on September 20th. Those fun Mo Willems characters, Elephant and Piggie are back to introduce kids to their favorite books. The booked are titled WE ARE GROWING and the COOKIE FIASCO. These books are so colorful and fun because they are created and brought to life by contemporary children’s book authors and illustrators. Each 64-page beginning reader has vibrant and coloful illustrations and stories that are fun and funny. They speak to kids’ interests and abilities through relatable stories and fun characters. Plus, each book contains all-new Elephant & Piggie story bumpers!

We were sent these amazing new books and my nephew can’t get enough of them. When cookies are involved, you know it’s going to be a fun reading experience. We were also sent a cute set of Elephant & Piggie finger puppets with the books. I immediately thought to myself, why are there no finger puppets for the new books? To celebrate the release of the books, I knew I had to make some DIY “We Are Growing” cute little grass finger puppets and that’s just what I’m showing you how to make today!

To make these fun finger puppets you’ll need:

Supplies-DIY-Recipes

  • Green and Black Sticker Back Felt
  • Printable Vinyl
  • Scissors
  • Black Marker

How-To-DIY-Recipes

First you cut strips from the green felt that are about one and a half inches wide. To make three finger puppets, you’ll need to cut 6 strips from your green sticker back felt.

Cut out little bean shaped mouths and any other mouth shape that the characters have. You then cut little black strips for the eyebrows and little circles for the eye balls.

Lastly, you cut out some little teeth shapes for the mouth. Once all your pieces are cut, you then stick the green felt pieces together at the top, leaving some of the paper in the center of the green felt at the bottom. This will be the space to put your fingers in. You stick together the edges of the bottom of the green felt pieces leaving the space open. You then glue on the eyes, mouths, teeth, and eye brows to the green felt pieces. Lastly, you draw on the eyes and eye lashes to the eye balls.

How cute are these?! WE ARE GROWING is by award-winning author and illustrator Laurie Keller. She’s an award-winning author and illustrator that has created many children’s books including Birdy’s Smile Book, The Scrambled States of America Talent Show, and Do Unto Otters, a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year. It tells the relatable story about how growing up isn’t always the easiest. Here is a little synopsis of the book:

Walt and his friends are growing up fast! Everyone is the something-est. But . . . what about Walt? He is not the tallest, or the curliest, or the silliest. He is not the anything-est! As a BIG surprise inches closer, Walt discovers something special of his own!

The COOKIE FIASCO is by Caldecott Award winner Dan Santat. It tells the story of a Hippo, Croc, and the Squirrels who are determined to have equal cookies for all! But how? There are only three cookies . . . And four of them. . . What’s more, they need to act fast before nervous Hippo breaks all the cookies into crumbs!
