Hey All!

I was invited to the Disney Animation Studio (from where the real magic comes), for a press to day for Disney’s “Frozen” (coming to theaters this November 27) and its accompanying short “Get a Horse.”

Disney’s newest animated musical feature is “Frozen.” Loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen,” this story follows two royal sisters Elsa (voices by Idina Menzel) and Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell).  Elsa is “the snow queen,” princess in this story, who has the power to create ice and snow from thin air. Unable to control her power, she secludes herself from the world and those that love her. Her seclusion leads to trouble as it leads to her kingdom being forever covered in ice and snow. Her younger sister Anna goes a quest to find Elsa and get her to fix the kingdom.

Aiding Anna on this quest are Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff) and his trusty moose Sven.

And an enchanted snowman named Olaf (voiced by Josh Gad).

During this press day, we were shown a few key scenes from the feature. Of the scenes, two were musical numbers. One of the numbers is Olaf (the snowman) singing about how much he can’t wait to see Summer and all of the fun things he wants to do in the Summer; get a tan, sit in warm water, all kinds of things that a snowman really shouldn’t do. The second number is “Let it Go.” Sung Idina Menzel, this number is a magical piece that is sure to get mention come Oscar nominations.

We were also shown how the animators acted out the scenes. They took us through the animators work flow and spoke about their goals for the film. Their ultimate goal for this film once they got the script was to provide a lot of depth to the characters and doing these characters justice.  They had 60 animators and they pushed each to get to believable performances with providing them with an acting coach.

Acting coach, Warner Loughlin went over every single character with the Animators of Frozen. The hard work truly pays off as the clips we saw were fantastic. The rigging lab we experienced was also fantastic as it allowed us to learn how the characters moved. Without rigging the animators would only have sculpted characters. They build a set of controls that the animators can use to push and pull the body around.

“Frozen” has big musical numbers, fun characters, fantastic scenery, and a dramatic story. An old fashioned Disney feature with state of the art technology that looks like an amazing experience for the whole family.

Simply put, Frozen is going to be a must see for the whole family!

Stay tuned for my chat with the film makers.

FROZEN opens in theatres everywhere on November 27th!
